Spelunky builds on the strengths of its legendary predecessor and can even be played for free on the Switch with an online subscription.

The Nintendo Switch Online subscription not only offers access to older Nintendo games, but also includes the so-called Game Trials. Then you can usually try out the entire game for a week and play as much as you want. You don’t have to pay anything for this apart from the normal subscription price and this time Spelunky 2 is a real highlight.

That’s what it’s about: Nintendo’s Game Trials are part of the Switch Online subscription, which you may already have subscribed to anyway (for example, to be able to play SNES titles on your Switch or online at all). Spelunky 2 – Announcement Trailer shows the story of the new protagonist

What is Spelunky 2 game? First of all: A very good game. Otherwise you’re dealing with a roguelike in which you explore caves. In it, heaps of enemies are out to kill you and you can find all sorts of items and tools. The levels are always procedurally generated and when you die, the fun starts all over again.

Even the first Spelunky was a small genre milestone. Without this game, titles like Hades, Dead Cells or The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth would probably not have existed. But not even this successor here, which improves the ingenious formula again, brings countless useful extensions with it and simply inspired us in the GamePro test:

Spelunky 2 review:

It doesn’t get (much) better

This is how the game trial works: Do you have from May 25th for a whole week Time to play Spelunky up and down. You can even download it right now, install it completely and then get access to the entire game without any restrictions. You don’t have to pay anything extra if you already have a Switch Online subscription and you can play until May 31st.

For special bargain hunters: There is also the possibility to test Nintendo Switch Online for a limited time and thus free of charge, if you have not already done so.
