Earn money with games: What do you think of Play2Earn?

Would you like to earn money while playing? The concept already exists and is called Play2Earn.

The dream of making money from gaming has existed almost as long as the industry itself. Be it through direct game development, gaming journalism, via platforms Twitch and YouTube or in e-sports: Many passionate gamers have already managed to to turn their hobby into a job.

Over time, more and more options opened up for interested players and one of them is now Play2Earn.

Reddit Founder Thinks Blockchain Will Radically Change Gaming In 2021 – What Is It Anyway?

What does Play2Earn mean? This is the concept of giving players a chance to earn in-game assets as they play. These assets can then theoretically be converted into “valuable real-world resources”. In plain language: You have the chance to make a profit while playing.

Games that offer or are based on Play2Earn for their users mostly use blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

  • In Axie Infinity, an idle battle game, players can earn an Ethereum-based in-game cryptocurrency that they can convert into real money. It is also possible to trade in the game’s open market and also make profits.
  • In the MMORPG MIR4, players can convert their characters into NFTs or mine in-game for Darksteel, MIR4’s cryptocurrency.
  • The upcoming MMORPG ArcheWorld will also offer the possibility to convert characters, skins, pets, mounts, etc. into NFTs. Ingame we can earn Archeum, which can then be exchanged for the cryptocurrency BORA.

The concept itself is not new and is not tied to blockchain technology. The Diablo 3 auction house has already provided players with these opportunities, and the CS:GO skin market also allows players to earn thousands of dollars with rare skins.

However, most of the new gaming projects that offer Play2Earn rely more on blockchain and crypto.

The concept sounds enticing on paper, and it has already made people good money by playing. At the same time, however, there are regular reports of scams related to blockchain games, NFTs and cryptocurrencies.
