Sony could significantly expand its own activities on the PC and smartphones and tablets. At least one job posting seems to indicate that they are working on their own PSN launcher for PC, Android and iOS. We’re looking at what new opportunities that could bring.

Will the new PS Plus also come to PC, Android and iOS?

That’s what it’s about: In a vacancy Sony is looking for new people to further develop “the PlayStation PC gaming experience” in terms of “SDK development” as well as “client application experiences” as “PlayStation network Platform integration”. That sounds suspiciously like an implementation that could bring PSN to PCs and smartphones as a separate launcher.

What could that mean? Above all, having its own PC and smartphone launcher sounds like Sony would like to standardize the offers on all platforms – even if it is perhaps primarily about the look.

A dedicated PC launcher would otherwise probably not offer any major or surprising innovations. It is possible that the percentages for Epic and Steam would ensure that Sony publishes its own titles more frequently and faster. But looking ahead, this could have far more far-reaching implications. All this would be possible:

  • PS Plus (Premium) also on PC and smartphone
  • Lots more PlayStation games on PC and mobile
  • Stream more Sony games to smartphone
  • Sony titles could benefit from performance on PC
  • More and easier crossplay possibilities
  • Own launcher = more profit = release incentive

PS Plus Premium on mobile and PC? The idea sounds interesting, especially with regard to the realignment of PS Plus with the individual gradations PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. PS Now is already available for the PC and, as is well known, it should be revised or merged into PS Plus. If PC gamers were actually able to enjoy the full range of PS Plus, they would certainly be happy.

Games can be streamed on the smartphone or tablet via Remote Play, but PS Now does not work. However, that could change with a corresponding launcher and that would also mean that the entire PS Plus offer might be available on your cell phone. Various Sony titles could finally be played on the smartphone, perhaps primarily as a stream from the cloud.

More about PS Plus and Co.:

But beware! Don’t rejoice too soon: The job advertisement does not explicitly mention these possibilities, so it is primarily still pure speculation. So you should treat the ideas with caution until there are official announcements in this direction.

What do you think of PS Plus Premium on PC and smartphone? What do you think of a custom launcher?
