Banned for 17 years, Overpowered Yu-Gi-Oh card makes a jubilant return
Yu-Gi-Oh is currently experiencing a small renaissance and is enjoying great popularity. Accordingly, changes to the rules are observed suspiciously and there have been a few of them now. Respectively, the list of forbidden cards has been updated, which means that some cards can finally be played again. Two cards are causing particular excitement, including the legendary “Defector” card.
Yu-Gi-Oh remove defectors and other cards from the forbidden list
That’s what it’s about: In the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game, there are some cards that were banned after their release. This is primarily due to the fact that, for example, when combined with other cards that were released later, they suddenly became far too strong and could provide unfair advantages. Of course, this can change over time, as in these cases.
This is new now: Konami has released an update to its list of banned and restricted cards, and it’s causing quite a stir. Mainly because of two cards that are now no longer banned and have been removed from the list. These are “Defector” and “Yata-Garasu”.

By the way, if you don’t feel like buying expensive card packs, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel can also enjoy the trading card game for free and digitally. You can see what that looks like here:

Yu-Gi-Oh fans are making legendary comebacks
For anyone who grew up playing Yu-Gi-Oh, these two cards are likely filled with memories. The fact that they can now officially be played again after 17 or 18 years is like a little nostalgia trip. The fans react accordingly enthusiastically:

In particular, the Change of Heart or defector card enjoys cult status among fans. This is mainly because she played an important role not only in the game itself, but also in the accompanying anime. The timing of the original card and its comeback also works in a very special way: when Yu-Gi-Oh became better known in the west, the card appeared and now it returns to match the revival.
Even og Yu-Gi-Oh! players who started in 1999-2002 and quit the game almost 2 decades ago know about Change of Heart.
Even though Yata was much more of a meta defining card, CoH came out in SD Yugi, right at the start of the fad in the West. It’s so cathartic to see CoH unbanned.— Ned Rostram (@NRostram) May 17, 2022
Thanks in part to the free-to-play Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Android, iOS and PC. The trading card title has been increasingly played by some streamers over the past few weeks. Apart from that, of course, tournaments with normal cards still take place.
What memories do you associate with the Yu-Gi-Oh cards? What do you say about the changes?
