Leaks to CoD Modern Warfare 2 give professional players hope: “If they do it right, it could save CoD”
Seth ‘Scump’ Abner is a Pro Player of Call of Duty: Warzone. He also notices that the shooter franchise is currently in a crisis. But the early leaks and rumors about Modern Warfare 2 give him hope.
Since the first rumors about CoD: Modern Warfare 2, information about the game has been circulating that it should get a new game mode called “DMZ”. Trusted leakers like Tom Henderson keep saying DMZ should be heavily based on games like Escape from Tarkov.
The idea that such a game mode could appear in CoD also gives CoD professional Seth ‘Scump’ Abner great hope. He believes that DMZ can save Call of Duty in the form.

CoD professional is enthusiastic about the idea, but “does not want to get his hopes up too high”
What is leaked mode? If DMZ is really reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov, that means that CoD could soon have a playable mode that looks like this:
- Put together a loadout from items you’ve already got hold of in advance.
- You then look for more loot in the matches.
- Finally, you try to safely disappear from the map with this loot.
- With a combination of PvP and PvE, real players and AI opponents try to prevent you from doing so.
- You can use loot that you successfully took with you in the next match.
- But if you die in a match, you lose (almost) everything you took with you.
What does the pro say about this? CoD professional Scump thinks the idea that the latest Call of Duty could soon be playable is incredibly good. In the podcast from his esports team OpTic, he can hardly stay on his chair because of the anticipation.

He says again and again that he “doesn’t want to get his hopes up too high”, but that’s hard to believe given some of the statements. Here is a small selection:
- “If they get this right, it could save CoD. If they do it right… Oh my god. Escape From Tarkov, CoD style, with skins… ooooh!”
- “If it’s a game like Escape From Tarkov… These games are addictive! You just have to try to find a balance between killing people and taking the good stuff away from them. That’s a great feeling.”
- “Killing opponents who have better loot, stealing a million dollars from them. That is so exciting. It is so much fun.”
However, he doubts that it will be an exact copy of Tarkov. Instead, he and his interlocutors suspect that it will be a faster version of the shooter hit from Russia. Because Tarkov is an extremely realistic military simulation – CoD will accommodate casual players more, the pros suspect.

This game principle is becoming a new trend in the shooter world. The German shooter hope The Cycle: Frontier hits about this notch and wants to pick up casual players.

So it wouldn’t be a surprise that CoD might try to jump into this trend. But EA’s big shooter competitor has also tried it. With the “Hazard Zone” mode, Battlefield 2042 wanted to make its own version of Tarkov – and completely failed.
Should CoD actually follow suit, it will be exciting to see how much success they will have with it.
