Mini PC: Minisforum announces HX90G with Ryzen 9 5900HX and Radeon RX 6650M

from Maximilian Hohm
Minisforum wants to launch new mini PCs with dedicated AMD graphics cards. A sophisticated cooling solution, a Ryzen 9 5900HX and a Radeon RX 6650M should find space in a volume of just 2.8 liters and perform at decent temperatures and an acceptable volume. Read more about this below.

With the HX90G, Minisforum would like to launch what it says is the first mini PC with a discrete AMD graphics card. The PC is sorted into the in-house Neptun series, in which other mini-PCs with dedicated graphics cards cavort and for which many innovations are expected. The HX90G should start with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and a Radeon RX 6650M. This hardware is to be accommodated in a housing with a volume of 2.8 liters.

In addition to two fans, seven heat pipes are used for cooling, three of which are intended for the CPU and four for the GPU. For better heat transfer, the HX90G should rely on liquid metal for the CPU and GPU. As a result, the mini-PC should remain relatively quiet, even though the graphics card and the processor each consume between 50 and 100 watts under full load. The graphics card shouldn’t have to downclock itself, which would mean decent temperatures in the small case.

In order to supply the power consumption, the PC is supplied with a 260 watt power supply. Otherwise, two SODIMM-DDR4 bars, each with 8 GiB capacity, an NVMe SSD with 512 GB and a WLAN and Bluetooth module are installed in the PC. On the connection side, there is a 2.5G LAN port, two HDMI and two DP connections, three USB 3.2 (Gen2), one USB-C, headphone and microphone connections and one USB 3.1 on the front. Windows 11 Pro is to be pre-installed as standard on the HX90G as the operating system.
