WhatsApp ends support for iOS 10 & 11: These iPhones are affected

WhatsApp will soon end support for iOS 10 and iOS 11. The popular messenger can no longer be used on some older iPhones in the future. Anyone who owns such an iPhone will inevitably have to switch to a new smartphone to use WhatsApp.

Like the site WABetaInfo reported, some iPhone users recently received a pop-up notification: Your iOS version will not be supported after October 24, 2022. Specifically, it is iOS 10 and iOS 11. WhatsApp prompts users in the notification for the iOS update – if this is possible. Two iPhones running iOS 10 as the final operating system will no longer be able to use WhatsApp from autumn.

No more WhatsApp on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c

In fact, the end of support only affects two smartphones from Apple: the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5c. iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners are in luck for now. These devices run iOS 12 as the final operating system version. It may be some time before WhatsApp decides to no longer support iOS 12 either.

It is even necessary to rule out outdated operating systems at some point, as these slow down the further development of the respective app. WhatsApp ran on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c for ten and nine years respectively.

Meanwhile, Apple’s latest update for iOS is already in the starting blocks. At WWDC 2022, which runs from June 6th to 10th, Apple will present iOS 16. A major redesign of Apple’s operating system is unlikely to happen this time either, although the update is said to offer a few “fresh Apple apps”.
