New MMO shooter Bloodhunt scraps ranked mode as PS5 players get annihilated

With Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, a new battle royale with vampire flair was launched just a few weeks ago. The developers have now announced that the ranked mode will disappear for the time being. PS5 players just don’t stand a chance.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a free2play battle royale that will celebrate its full release on April 27th – on PC and PS5.

With a mix of vampiric skills, some guns, and weighted clubs, you’ll shake up the Prague night and fight other bloodsuckers for the throne of the last standing.

Until recently, the game also offered a ranked mode. But the developers explained that players would have to do without the mode for the time being. Out of consideration for gamers with controllers.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to temporarily pause ranked mode until the new update is available. We hope that the new balance changes and gamepad improvements will increase the popularity of the mode again and make matchmaking viable again.”

The developers go into more detail in the preliminary patch notes: The aim assist for controllers is too weak, making the game on the PS5 too difficult. In the blog post, the developers then explain quite precisely what is not working on the Assist and how they want to fix it (via bloodhunt.com).

What is ranked mode? These are competitive game modes that use very strict skill-based matchmaking. Only players with a similar skill level end up in lobbies together.

There are often other rules – in CoD Vanguard, for example, some weapons and equipment are prohibited. In the MOBA League of Legends there is a special choice of champions before ranked rounds, in which you can lock characters for the opponents.

What do players say about this? The decision of the developers can be understood by looking at the comments below the tweet.

Disappointed controller players soon found themselves talking about how strong they found the game, but that they didn’t stand a chance against players with mouse & keyboard:

  • @mikebellanova: “Playing the game on the PS5 is so painful, ey. Starting a game without activated crossplay is also impossible. I’ve learned not to take the game too seriously and now I’m laughing when I’m the last controller player against 3 pc players with precision weapons and katana lol.”
  • @huntergsmith95: “Removes crossplay completely. PS5 players are abandoning the game due to the incredible benefits it offers to PC players with a mouse and keyboard.”
  • @MwOctober1983: “Nice to see you guys trying. But it may already be too late for the console. With no crossplay, matchmaking times are faster than ever, and everyone I started with has already stopped playing Bloodhunt.”

A certain disappointment can be read from many of the comments. Bloodhunt is a solid battle royale and has a lot of potential for it. But if you just get destroyed as a controller player and can’t find a match without crossplay, no matter how good the game can be. It’s no fun.

However, a stronger aim assist can lead to other balancing problems. Working with the mechanics has become a tightrope act due to the crossplay trend.

This even applies to the greatest representatives of the genre: CoD Warzone: Crossplay is just annoying – and that’s not because of cheaters
