We already know most of the hardware specs for Sony’s next VR headset, but the company has so far kept relatively quiet about the software. In a presentation for investors, however, there is now more information about the lineup of VR glasses. There are said to be more than 20 games at the launch of PSVR 2, both from first-party studios and third-party studios. But what could the titles be?

PSVR 2 urgently needs good games for launch

There aren’t too many real hits for VR to this day, and that’s a problem for the entire division of the games industry. The released software is often more “experience” than a full-fledged game. Although PSVR has sold well, the headset has not made any big headlines in recent years and only seems to be running on the side for Sony. It is all the more urgent that the successor has to deliver when it is launched on the market.

How many of the 20 games are really new? Over 20 titles, that sounds solid at first. However, if there are VR modes for existing software and PSVR ports, the impression could quickly slip into the negative. Sony needs to pull as many high-quality games as possible onto its new platform to give VR a new boost among console audiences.

These games could come to PSVR 2

This is confirmed: The highlight of the launch should be Horizon Call of the Mountain, which is being developed in cooperation between Guerrilla Games and Firespite Games. Other confirmed games include Eleven Table Tennis, Low-Fi, Pavlov Shack, RUNNER, and Samurai Slaughter House. In addition, the studios Coatsink, nDreams and Fast Travel Games projects in progress. However, it is not known which of these will make it to the PSVR 2 launch.

This could still come: It should be clear that Sony is working on other titles for PSVR 2 internally. But in addition to new games, some VR titles from recent years could also make it onto the platform for which PSVR is too weak. At the top of the wish list for many Half Life Alyx with which Valve showed us what AAA can look like in VR. A frequent request would also be Resident Evil 4 VR, which was commissioned by Meta – so it is unlikely to be implemented.

When is PSVR 2 coming out?

An official release date or period for PlayStation VR 2 is not mentioned in the report, but experts and insiders have long assumed a release later this year. Recently, however, there have been voices who expect Sony to have postponed the headset internally to 2023.

The reasons are obvious: crippling supply chains and the relatively low user base of the PS5, which is selling slower than forecast due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips. So it’s quite possible that Sony will take a little more time with the launch of PSVR 2.
