Call of Duty is now owned by Microsoft but will remain on PS5 for now

Sony apparently planning launchers for PlayStation games on PC (1)

According to the industry insider Tom Henderson we will be until 2025 or 2026 Call of Duty on Playstation 5 see. Henderson announced this on his Twitter profile. Here Henderson commented on the current marketing deal between Sony and Activision. According to him, the deal should still apply to the next three Call of Duty titles. These would be Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2 and a Call of Duty title by Trey Arch. Accordingly, Call-of-Duty could also become an important marketing partner for the Playstation 5 in the next few years. What exactly this for the new PS Plus or the Xbox Game Pass means is currently unknown.

Call of Duty still on the PS5

Ever since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, there have been rumors and reports of exclusivity for many of the controversial company’s brands. One of Activision’s strongest brands is undoubtedly the Call of Duty series. Henderson’s comments confirm the Bloomberg report we reported earlier this year.

Also according to Bloomberg, three more Call of Duty titles for the Playstation 5 are to come onto the market. Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced at the time that existing agreements would be respected. Accordingly, there are increasing signs that the next three CoD titles will also appear on Sony’s flagship. However, this is not a “friendly gesture” towards Microsoft’s competitor.

The acquisition of Activision Blizzard is currently confronted with possible accusations of representing a monopoly. Accordingly, it should certainly be in Microsoft’s interest to circumvent such allegations as best as possible. Claiming one of the world’s biggest shooter brands exclusively for PC and Xbox Series consoles might not be the smartest move.
