The Callisto Protocol cuts its ties to the PUBG universe

Who hasn’t thought of Dead Space when looking at the images of The Callisto Protocol? All the more surprising was the announcement that the sci-fi horror from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield should play in the PUBG universe, one of the most famous battle royale titles.

PUBG and The Callisto Protocol are going their separate ways

What do The Callisto Protocol and PUBG have in common? Well, that’s exactly what the developers have been asking themselves and come to the conclusion that this connection is a bit “far-fetched” and now has its own world and story. The development studio Striking Distance, created by Krafton, originally intended to expand the universe of battle royales with the horror game.

In a recent Gameinformer post about The Callisto Protocol, Schofield said that Krafton’s lore team tried to weave the horror game into PUBG’s story. While the game would have been “quite far out” in the timeline, the idea was dropped during development.

“The idea that we’re in the universe sounded really good at first, and then when we started making up the story, we were like, ‘Wow, that’s a bit far-fetched.'” So without PUBG, that’s how it goes but not.

More news on The Callisto Protocol:

“PUBG is great, and we’re still going to have little surprises for fans,” Schofield says in the post, adding that The Callisto Protocol is “its own world, story, and universe.”

So ties to PUBG will be severed when the title launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC later this year. The game was announced in 2020 and takes place in a prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320.
