Sony: When will the PS5 be more available?

The next-gen consoles Xbox Series X|S and Playstation 5 have been officially available since November 2020, at least in theory. In Asia in particular, lockdowns, such as in Shanghai, make it particularly difficult to maintain supply chains. According to Sony, negotiations are currently underway for an optimized delivery route. However, Sony had to admit that the sales target for the PS5 was missed by 3.3 million units.

Since the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic, manufacturers worldwide have been struggling with a shortage of semiconductors. As a result of fewer orders, production was throttled back in 2020 before local protective measures against infections with Sars-Cov-2 ensured that the assembly lines had to stand still in many places. Intel, for example, now assumes that the chip crisis will last until 2024.
