V Rising: New patch creates critical error - developer withdraws the update

This morning a new patch 0.5.41591 for the surprise hit V Rising went online on Steam, which should actually bring a few pleasant changes. Unfortunately, he also had a nasty bug in tow, so developer Stundlock Studios canceled the update for the time being.

Many users reported that the game gets stuck at the initial white screen upon launch, after which developer Stunlock initiated a rollback to the last version. The scores should not have been damaged as a result.

The short delay is a little unfortunate, because there were already a few nice changes. They prove that the developers are listening to the players.

In this version, there should finally be a setting for the texture quality in the graphics options, which should pull the teeth out of overly cheeky VRAM consumption.

In addition, you will soon be able to limit the frame rate in the advanced graphics options. Because believe me: In the energy crisis, you don’t have to run this game from the top view at 300 frames per second.

A setting related to the atmosphere’s low quality setting has also been changed, but is only intended to keep the options menu “consistent”.

In the game itself, the stairs have now been moved to the same tab where the castle floors can also be found, so that you don’t have to make too many clicks unnecessarily when designing your musty dwelling.

Some missing meshes, i.e. material effects, were also added to certain world objects, finally everyone will soon be able to choose all anti-aliasing options again, not just TAA. And one occasion where the frame rate would drop has been eliminated – namely when hitting Night Marshal Styx with certain skills.

On troubleshooting!

Stunlock invites everyone affected to help debug the V Rising test branch. You can access this by right clicking on the game in Steam, selecting Properties and going to the Beta page. There you select “public-test” from the drop-down menu and you can get started.

Stunlock points to his discord and asks for the log file of those affected if they participate. This can be found in the AppData folder. Locate the LocalLow folderStunlock StudiosVRising there and the “player.log” file there. This is then to be sent to ruthd (at) stunlockstudios.com with the subject “WHITE SCREEN”.

V Rising is a minor sensation this year and quickly sold a million copies. From our point of view, this did not come completely without an announcement, as we recently discussed in our newscast.

Have you already checked it out, or are the genre and early access not for you?
