A secret change in Elden Ring makes you feel even more powerful

One of the best feelings in video games is when you finally defeat a difficult boss that has been driving you to despair for ages. Elden Ring is one of those games that relies on exactly this feeling due to the high level of difficulty. You feel powerful when you defeat one of the feared fighters. A hidden change in patch 1.04 now makes you feel even more powerful than before as fighting multiple bosses has become easier.

Which secret change is it? FromSoftware’s hit title Elden Ring is a real challenge. Extremely difficult boss fights characterize the entire course of the game.

It gets particularly tricky when, instead of one extremely strong boss, suddenly two or three strong bosses want to fight the player at the same time.

A YouTuber now found out that FromSoftWare seems to have made those group boss fights easier in patch 1.04 without mentioning the change in the patch notes.

Reduced aggressiveness of bosses

How has FromSoftware changed the boss fights? Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has reportedly made group boss fights easier with various changes to boss behavior.

In general, there are probably one or more so-called primary attackers among the bosses who attack the player, while the other bosses behave a little more passively. Who is the current primary and who is the secondary attacker may change as the boss fight progresses.

In patch 1.04 there was probably a change that reduces the number of primary attackers. This change is intended to prevent all bosses in the arena from attacking the player at the same time.

In addition, the aggressiveness of bosses that are not the primary attacker should be reduced. In practice, this affects the fight in such a way that, for example, in a duo boss fight, one of the two opponents aggressively attacks you as the primary attacker, while the other passively holds back more in the background.

For an overview, we list the changes again here:

  • Number of primary attackers reduced
  • non-primary/secondary attackers are less aggressive

Which bosses have been adjusted? The change in group boss fights doesn’t appear to affect all boss fights in the category. There should also be some bosses that only received part of the changes.

Group boss fights, both of which received changes:

  • Crystallians
  • Mad Pumpkin Heads
  • Abductor Virgins

Boss fights that have only been partially adjusted:

  • Earthtree Avatars
  • Crucible Knights

Some bosses in Elden Ring are a real challenge even if they don’t attack you in a group. One of the most feared opponents of the action RPG is Malenia. Check out the story of a player who became a hero of the community in the fight against the warrior on MeinMMO:

Like other action RPGs from FromSoftware, Elden Ring is characterized by the high degree of difficulty and the enormous challenge of some boss fights.

Players must learn their opponents’ moves, design perfectly timed builds, and maintain patience despite numerous failed attempts if they want to defeat a boss.

Nonetheless, a well-known speedrunner recently managed to take down every boss required to complete the Elden Ring storyline with just a single punch.
