New Fat Pig is wowing Pokemon fans right now - and that's just because of its name

Pokémon Crimson and Crimson are the upcoming 9th generation of the Pokémon series and there are already over 900 Pokémon without them. But a little pig of all things is taking the hearts of the fans by storm. This is not least due to the English version of his name: Lechonk. MeinMMO explains what’s behind it.

What is this Pokemon? Lechonk or in German Ferkuli was presented in the last trailer of the new editions Karmesin and Purpur. It is a small, black and fat piglet with yellow circles under its eyes.

It is of the Normal type and resembles a small version of a truffle pig. Ferkuli even has a special flair for rich berries and fragrant grasses. According to the official Pokémon site, although it looks fat, its body is mostly muscle.

Fans celebrate Lechonk and make it a meme

Twitter and reddit are going steep: The term Lechonk trended on Twitter for a few hours with over 20,000 tweets.

Twitter user and YouTuber Patterrz garnered almost 13,000 retweets and more than 160,000 likes by posting a picture of Lechonk and saying, “Lechonk is the only Pokemon that you can’t legally give a pet name to (via Twitter).”

Out of Context Pokemon couldn’t believe it either and also received almost 25,000 retweets and almost 200,000 likes with his tweetin which he wrote “They called him Lechonk, LMFAO”.

in the subreddit “pokemonmemes” many fans made the wildest pictures (memes) for the new pig. Here’s how reddit user Axirev Ferkuli put on a beret and handed him a baguette:

Fat piglet has names that describe chubby cats

But why is the name Lechonk such a hit? The community splits the name into two parts “Le” and “chonk”. Chonk/chonky was jokingly derived from the English term “chunk” or “chunky”, which means something like fat, chunky or chunk.

Chonky or chonk is affectionately used in meme culture to describe fat animals and particularly plump cats. The subreddit chokers is the perfect example of this. Chubby cat pictures are posted there all the time.

The word “Le” is simply the French word for “that”.

What are memes? Memes are usually images, GIFs, or short videos that mostly contain light-hearted humor. Sometimes, however, they also have a satirical touch, which is why they are sometimes viewed as socially critical.

Where does the name Lechonk actually come from? Lechonk actually comes from the Spanish term “Lechón”, which simply means suckling pig.
