Steam Deck: Docking station postponed indefinitely

Steam Deck: Valve is ramping up production of the handheld (1)

The new Steam deck has been out for a few months now, and overall players are quite happy with Valve’s device. There is quite a large selection of verified games, technically the Steam deck looks good and is arguably quite enjoyable to actually play on. Similar to the Nintendo Switch, Valve also wants to provide a docking station for their new device. With this, players should be able to play their Steam games conveniently on the television by simply placing their Steam Deck in the station. However, it was already foreseeable that the docking station would take a little longer than previously thought. in one Blog post from February this year Valve only gave a vague release date of late spring 2022, and further stated that the release is not happening as soon as hoped.

Steam Deck docking station lags

Yesterday, June 1, 2022, Valve now explainedthat the docking station for the Steam Deck will be slightly delayed. “Due to the shortage of required components and COVID-related closures of our production facilities, the launch of the official Steam Deck docking station has been delayed.”

The company does not specify a release date in its post, which is probably why the docking station was simply postponed indefinitely. But at least Valve is working on continuously improving the device, with “USB-C hubs and external displays”. It is not yet known how much the docking station will actually cost, but it is estimated that the price will be close to that of the Nintendo Switch dock.
