PSVR 2 launch for 2023 was apparently spoiled by the PlayStation Blog
The rough release period of Sony’s PSVR 2 headset could now have been leaked by Sony itself.
There is no exact date for the PSVR 2 launch even after the State of Play, but the rough period may have been accidentally revealed. However, the time is not a big surprise, because only very few expected Sony’s new virtual reality headset for PS5 to be released this year.
State of Play announcement may have spoiled PSVR 2 launch period
That’s what it’s about: At yesterday’s State of Play, Sony presented various new PSVR 2 titles. Among other things, a corresponding mode for Resident Evil 8: Village, more about Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution. And in the official PlayStation blog post Regarding the latter, Sony has apparently already confirmed that the VR headset will be released in 2023.
“The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution is currently scheduled for release in late 2022 for PS VR and 2023 for PS VR2.“
Simple math: If the game is going to release for Sony’s PSVR 2 solution in 2023, then the platform needs to launch that year as well. Otherwise, of course, none of this will work. However, the same post also emphasizes that the virtual reality headset is still in development. So it doesn’t seem to be all that fixed and there is still no official announcement. Until that comes, you should still enjoy the whole thing with caution.
Leak matches rumours: The fact that PSVR 2 will not be launched until 2023 now seems quite realistic. Several industry insiders already believed in April that the release would no longer take place in 2022, but had been postponed to 2023. This could be due to the general shortage of chips, supply bottlenecks, the Russia/Ukraine war and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
