Resi 4 Remake, Final Fantasy 16 & More: All PS5 State of Play Announcements!

(10)

At midnight on Friday 3 June 2022, Sony hosted the digital State of Play featuring PS5 and PS4 game announcements, releases, dates and gameplay. Many observers expected a show strongly focused on Playstation VR 2 in advance. PSVR 2 will be released for Playstation 5 in the foreseeable future and will replace the VR glasses for Playstation 4.

Well, PSVR 2 played a significant role during the State of Play, but not nearly as much as might have been assumed. The goggles and motion controllers that we already know what they will look like weren’t even shown during the State of Play, but some VR games or games that at least support virtual reality were. But there were many, many more announcements, and among them were some real blockbusters – anyone interested in Resident Evil 4 Remake or Final Fantasy 16? Yes, we have too! In the following we summarize all announcements for you for a complete overview. Have fun!

Resident Evil 4 Remake officially announced

The sparrows have already whistled it from the rooftops, now it’s official: Resident Evil 4 appears as a remake for the PS5! Other platforms have not yet been confirmed, at least last-gen in the form of OS4 (and Xbox One) are obviously left out. There is also a date: Resident Evil 4 Remake will be released on March 23, 2023 for Playstation 5 (buy now €713.00). On the Playstation Blog, the developers promise a remake that will feel modern while staying true to the spirit of the critically acclaimed original.

VR content for the new Resident Evil 4, playable on PSVR 2, has also been confirmed, but what this will look like is not yet known. It doesn’t sound like the game is fully playable in VR like Resident Evil 4 VR though.

Resident Evil 8 becomes a VR game

Resident Evil once again: Resident Evil Village is coming to Playstation VR 2! During the State of Play, gameplay from the VR horror was shown, which seems to offer significantly more interactivity than the very rudimentarily implemented Resident Evil 7 and is therefore more based on the style of Resident Evil 4 VR. There is no date for the update and no information as to whether owners of the game will have to pay extra for it.

Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution is coming to PSVR 2

It continues to be horror-heavy: Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2 – Retribution was announced for all sorts of other VR systems some time ago, now also for PSVR 2. The game with the long, stupid name is the successor to the lot acclaimed predecessor with a shorter, not-so-silly name. The release date has been narrowed down to 2022. But don’t get your hopes up that a 2022 release for PSVR 2 has been leaked as a result: the game will also appear for the old PSVR glasses. Damn!

No Man’s Sky is coming to Playstation VR 2

Almost like Skyrim, No Man’s Sky is now available for almost every device, unsurprisingly the VR version is also coming for PSVR 2. A date is still pending.

Horizon: Call of the Mountain looks damn good

The only game confirmed ahead of State of Play, Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a PSVR 2-exclusive spin-off of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West, putting us in instead of protagonist Aloys the boots of new hero Ryas.

Immersion is a priority here, and it looks like we’re in for a full-fledged first-person Horizon. If you want, you can indulge in idleness in a special mode during an idyllic river trip and enjoy the really impressive looking landscape. Nasty: There is no release date for Horizon: Call of the Mountain yet.
