Rumor: iPhone 14 with few chip innovations

from Claus Ludewig
The iPhone 14 is said to only appear with a few new chips. The rumor mill even rumors that it could be a marginally updated chipset from the iPhone 13.

Every year in the fall, Apple hosts an event where new devices are presented. Mostly then the new iteration of iPhones is released. The iPhone 14 is expected for this year. The iPhone 14 Pro is said to come with a new SoC from Apple. Well there is Rumors about the normal iPhone 14. The smallest and cheapest model in the series is said to have an old chipset, according to Trendforce. From a marketing point of view, Apple could still call the SoC Apple A16 Bionic, although it is said to be just an overclocked version of the Apple A15 Bionic that is used in the current iPhone 13. Maybe the GPU will not have four cores, but a five-core one, like the iPhone 13 Pro.

How should the iPhone 14 & the Pro models differ?

To enable a little more performance, the iPhone 14 could get more RAM. In the future, all models in the series will be equipped with four gigabytes of RAM, with only the two Pro models having LPDDR5 RAM instead of the slower LPDDR4X RAM. The iPhone 14 Pro and the Pro Max will use a newly developed chipset, which may be called the Apple A16. Only the two Pro versions are said to have three camera lenses on the rear, with the main camera lens offering 48 megapixels. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, on the other hand, could only have a dual camera with 12 megapixels each.

There should be an always-on display exclusively for the two more expensive Pro models from the iPhone 14. Apple is said to be using the same technology as the Apple Watch, which already has an always-on display. In addition, the two Pro models should offer a display with a double punch hole instead of a notch. The two cheaper equipment versions with an improved front camera and an emergency call function via satellite may be major innovations.
