State of Play: I could watch these 5 trailers up and down

Dennis really picked up the State of Play yesterday and those were his highlights.

It’s always a problem with midnight bedtime events. If what is shown does not pick you up, tiredness sets in quickly. But I didn’t feel any of that during the night from Thursday to Friday, because Sony’s State of Play was one of the best ever for me.

This was not only due to the selection of the games shown, but also because of what was shown in the trailers: namely all kinds of gameplay. I want to tell you which five trailers have particularly increased my anticipation of the approaching release.

The redemption! Resident Evil 4 Remake

As a huge Resi fan, I haven’t been able to read a message for months, almost years: “New Resident Evil 4 Remake rumor surfaced“. It was 99% certain that there would be a new edition, the questions about “when?” and “how?” were the great unknown.

And now Capcom have finally let the rotten zombie out of the bag and like the remakes before it, the whole thing just looks good enough to eat. The anticipation for March 2023 is huge and I’m curious to see how the implementation will ultimately work.

The Great Horror Hope: The Callisto Protocol

Dead Space 1 and 2 are among my favorite horror games and if the master behind these pearls, Glen Schofield himself, is working on a more or less spiritual sequel, then I better play it today than tomorrow.

The Callisto Protocol looks stunningly good and terrible at the same time, and the fact that the dark action game is scheduled for release in December makes scarred horror hearts pound loudly.

The feel-good game: The Stray

With so much horror, you need a good dose of good humor to balance it out, and what better game to do that than Stray. In real life, as an allergy sufferer, I have to give cats a wide berth, but fortunately I can soon virtually hop through dark cyberpunk alleys with a particularly cute velvet paw.

So far, the game has struck me as even more like Wholesome Catcontent: The Game, which is more of a meme of sorts for cat lovers. But the action-adventure not only looks really good, but also seems to have a lot of fun in the game.

The surprise: Rollerdrome

Ah, an addon to Sable, no wait, what the heck is that!? I love when games like me Rollerdrome surprise with fresh ideas. And a roller skate shooter, so if that’s not a fresh concept then I don’t know what is.

Apart from that, the game by Roll 7 not only looks top notch with its distinctive art style, I can very well imagine extremely fun gameplay here with a view to OlliOlli World, which you should also take a look at by the way.

The Showoff: Final Fantasy 16

But first Square Enix takes their time with new information about Final Fantasy 16 and then they completely blow your mind with a bombastic trailer.

I have to admit that the series after part 10 unfortunately left me. But the medieval setting in combination with the combat system from the 7 remake and such an epic staging – how sexy does Ifrit look? – Who would I be if I wasn’t looking forward to such a game like Bolle.

So far my highlights from the State of Play. The fact that the two trailers for Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Saints and Sinner: Retribution didn’t make it into the top 5 for me as a VR fan only underlines how much the showcase picked me up yesterday. By the way, if you want to know which games have been shown, then feel free to take a look at the overview from colleague Eleen.

And now tell me which trailer made you particularly excited about the game in question. My guess is that you guys, like me, enjoyed Resi, Final Fantasy and The Callisto Protocol.
