Gamescom 2022: Nintendo is not participating this year

The Japanese video game manufacturer Nintendo will not be taking part in gamescom 2022 this year. After a two-year break, the fair will take place from 24-28. August 2022 again on site.

Nintendo already suspended the digital gamescom in 2020 and 2021. In the previous years, however, they were always represented with a large stand. There are also two recent releases, Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, coming to Switch on June 10, 2022, and Splatoon 3, coming out on September 9, 2022. However, this year Nintendo wants to focus on smaller, but more events.

on Request from GamesWirtschaft announces the Frankfurt headquarters of Nintendo of Europe:

“Gamescom is a key event in the event calendar for Nintendo. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against participating in Cologne.

Instead, players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch at numerous Germany-wide events. Events that have been planned so far include road shows with our Airstreamer and our Bulli, for example at locations such as the SWR Summer Festival and the Stuttgart Children and Youth Festival. For the Japan and video game fans, we have decided to take part in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt as well as the DoKomi in Dsseldorf and the AnimagiC in Mannheim. More tour stops and activities are planned.

We look forward to seeing our fans again at many regional events.”

In addition to Nintendo, 2K, Rockstar Games and Wargaming.net have also announced that they will be attending gamescom 2022 will not attend. While some publishers will certainly announce their participation, the following publishers are in Cologne for the fair currently confirmed:
