New MMORPG puts its focus entirely on PvE - Now extends the beta tests

Embers Adrift is a new MMORPG currently in closed beta. The special thing about the game is the pure PvE focus. In a State of the Game, new details about fast travel, areas and extended test times have now been shared.

What kind of game is this? Embers Adrift is a sandbox MMORPG that aims to let you experience adventure your way. You explore an open world in which only NPCs can become your problem. Because PvP doesn’t exist at all at the current stage of the game.

  • Embers Adrift uses a class specialization system. Initially you choose from Defender (tank), Striker (DD) and Supporter (healer). At level 6 you then choose a second specialization and create a special class from it – Defender and Supporter become the Knight, Defender and Striker become the Juggernaut. This makes for 9 different combinations, with the second specialization being switchable.
  • Overall, the MMORPG claims to be based on a “Holy Trinity+”. This consists of tank, healer, DD and crowd control.
  • The focus is generally on group content. There are dungeons, raids and challenges in the open world. Those who want to travel alone can do so, but will not be able to experience some things. Even part of the story is said to take place in group instances.
  • Embers Adrift dispenses with larger quest hubs and boring farming tasks. All quests in the game are meant to tell a story and bring greater rewards at the end.
  • Crafting is said to play an important role.
  • There are a few elements designed to make it more immersive, including the lack of a minimap, superfluous tooltips, and a stripped-down interface.

In general, Embers Adrift advertises that you should experience adventures with friends that you would later tell at a campfire.

Is Ember’s Adrift really completely without PvP? For the time being yes. However, the developers are thinking about bringing a duel function. However, the focus is then on passing the time while waiting. Arenas or even PvP in the open world is not planned.

Beta testing is now taking place throughout the weekend

What’s new? We last reported on Embers Adrift in early 2022. At that time, new gameplay was presented and the release for 2022 was announced. Since then, a lot has happened:

  • New areas and monsters have been introduced.
  • Crafting has been revised and should now make all materials useful, no matter what level you are.
  • New bank slots have been introduced that can be bought with in-game currency.
  • New armor and weapons have been created.
  • Emotes have been implemented.
  • Added new skills for levels 20-30.
  • In May, a fast travel system was introduced because the areas in the game are so vast. Each area gets a monolith that you have to unlock first. Once unlocked, one can travel from one monolith to another. Currently, travel is still free, but this is still being debated.

In addition, work began to increase the beta times as early as February. In the beginning you could only play on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, but since June the beta has been running from Friday 8:00 p.m. to Tuesday 8:00 p.m. In addition, the NDA of the beta was lifted in early March.

We have included new gameplay from YouTuber SuperBitsandBob, who has already spent several hours in Embers Adrift:

Where is the game right now? Embers Adrift is currently in a closed beta. According to the developers, almost all areas planned for launch should be ready. The dungeons are already complete.

Crafting, skills and animations are currently being fine-tuned. There were also initial stress tests for the servers, including an event where all players gathered in one place and fought monsters there.

How can I join the beta? If you want to play the beta, you currently have to buy a package that costs 50 euros. This includes:

  • Access to the beta
  • A special title
  • A sword skin
  • One day early access to the release
  • One month game time

How is Embers Adrift financed at all? Ember’s Adrift has no initial cost – so you don’t need to purchase a code for the game. However, it relies on a monthly subscription like WoW or FFXIV. On the other hand, there is no in-game shop at all.

Wasn’t Ember’s Adrift called something else? Yes, the game has been in the works since 2018, at that time still under the name Saga of Lucimia. However, the development team separated from one of its founders in 2021, which was probably one of the decisive points for the renaming.

What do you think of Ember’s Adrift? Is the MMORPG interesting for you or are you put off by the group focus and the rather weak graphics? Feel free to write it in the comments.
