(CNN Spanish) — Apple presented on Monday iOS 16, the new version of its operating system. The company qualified the release as “the biggest lock screen update to date”.

Therefore, with iOS 16 new features for the lock screen can be expected. But this is not the only thing: Apple also commented that the update will add improvements to messages and photos shared with the family.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new features in iOS 16, which were unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

What’s new in iOS 16

Specifically, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, outlined the things that will be included in iOS 16:

  1. Complete renovation of the design and operation of the lock screen.
  2. Introducing iCloud Photo Library Sharing for families.
  3. New features in Messages and Mail “to make communication easier.”
  4. “Improvements in intelligence technologies with news in Live Text and Visual Search”.
  5. Improvements in the Wallet app to pay later.
  6. New version of CarPlay.

1. Lock screen

  • Multilayer effect so that the subjects of your lock screen appear in front of the clock and thus create a depth effect.
  • You will have several typographic options and colors to change the style of the date and time.
  • You’ll be able to add lock screen widgets “so you can easily see data like upcoming calendar events, weather, battery level, alarms, time zones, Activity ring progress, and more,” says Apple. .
  • New gallery for the lock screen, where you can find one that shows you the weather or another one about astronomy with views of the Earth, the Moon and the solar system.
  • You will have the option to create lock screens with emojis and your favorite colors. In addition, you can have several lock screens and change them by sliding your finger.
  • Also, with the update, users will be able to follow “real-time” activities on the lock screen, such as the progress of an Uber trip or updates to a sporting event.
  • Notifications will appear at the bottom so your locked screen looks uncluttered.

2. Shared Photo Library

  • With iCloud Photo Library Sharing, families have a new way to easily share their photos in a separate iCloud Photo Library that up to six people can collaborate on.
  • All images in individual libraries can be shared, as of a specific date or based on the people in the images.
  • Another feature is that a button will be added in the Camera app to send images directly to the Shared Photo Library.
  • Users will receive smart suggestions to add people who participate in the Photo Library.
  • “All users in the group will have access to add, delete, edit or favorite videos and photos, which will also appear in Memories and Featured Photos so they can relive all the family moments without missing a thing,” adds Apple. .

3. Messages and Mail

  • It will be possible to “edit or undo messages, recover recently deleted messages and mark conversations as unread to return to them later,” says Apple.
  • The SharePlay feature is coming to Messages so users can do activities at the same time, like watching movies or listening to songs, with shared playback controls while chatting.
  • In Mail, emails can now be scheduled and users will have some time to unsend an email before it arrives in the user’s inbox.
  • With the “Remind me later” option, you can see an email some time after it arrived.
  • In addition, you will be reminded if you have not received an email thanks to the follow-up suggestions.
  • “Users will see the latest messages, contacts, documents and links the moment they start searching their email,” explains Apple.

4. Live Text and Visual Search

  • “Live Text uses in-device intelligence to recognize text in images on iOS, and now in videos as well. Users can stop a video at any frame and interact with the text,” says Apple.
  • The improved Live Text feature will convert currencies and translate text faster.
  • Visual Finder will allow users to long press on an image to separate it from its background and place it in other applications, such as Messages.
  • “Visual Finder can now also recognize birds, insects and statues.”

5. Apple Pay Later and other improvements in Wallet

  • “Apple Pay Later offers users in the United States a simple and secure way to divide the amount of an Apple Pay purchase into four equal payments over six weeks, without interest or fees of any kind,” says Apple.
  • US users will be able to view, control and pay their Apple Pay Later payments easily from Wallet.
  • This option may be requested when paying with Apple Pay or in the Wallet app.
  • Thanks to Apple Pay’s order tracking option, users can access detailed receipts and order tracking information in the Wallet app for all purchases made with Apple Pay at participating merchants.

6. The new CarPlay

  • The newest version of CarPlay will be packed with custom widgets controlled by the iPhone and capable of running on every screen in a car, from the center display to the instrument cluster behind the wheel.
  • As with Apple’s other updates, there will also be more widget support and more customization options, including various gauge group layouts.

What models are compatible and when does it arrive?
