Before each announcement of a new Assassin’s Creed part, the question arises as to where the Assassins and Templars will meet this time. In a 2020 Reddit poll, Vikings did very well, and with Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, fans got their way, too. However, the community wanted a different setting even more: Japan in the time of the samurai.

This is what an Assassin’s Creed in Japan should look like

As we know, until now Ubisoft has ignored a Japan setting for the Assassin’s Creed series, even though the stealth gameplay would actually fit perfectly.

However, the franchise has now also become much more action-oriented and sneaking only plays a marginal role. Also released shortly after the poll was Ghost of Tsushima, which set the bar very high for samurai action in an open world. Still, an Assassin’s Creed set in feudal Japan would be great.

And this fan trailer shows what an AC could look like in Japan with a modern look:

Unreal Engine 5 flexes its muscles: The video partly shows photorealistic environments thanks to the brand new Unreal Engine 5. We even get a glimpse of Gampelay, although the wooden animations are a little different from what is otherwise a beautiful setting.

A day and night cycle is also presented, and lighting is one of the great strengths of Epic’s engine. The next AC part will definitely have to be measured against the clip, even though such a demo cannot of course be compared with a complete game.

The assassins were already in China, at least for a short time

In addition to the Japan setting, many fans are also eagerly awaiting an Assassin’s Creed in China. While there is with Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China at least a 2.5D spinoff, but a main part in the Far East must first be created in the minds of the community.

And such a concept also exists for China – not, as one would probably expect, in the Middle Ages or even earlier, but for the year 1937. The ingenious concept art shows a Chinese soldier sneaking through war-torn Shanghai in World War II and fight against the Japanese aggressors.

What do you think of an Assassin’s Creed in Japan? Do you still feel like it after Ghost of Tsushima?
