RAM is getting cheaper: DDR5 prices continue to fall
RAM is getting cheaper
DDR5 RAM has now become affordable. The prices for the new memory sticks continue to fall. But the older DDR4 RAM is also getting cheaper.
News
At the start, the new DDR5 RAM standard was only available at crazy prices. In the meantime, however, the offers have leveled off at a much more affordable level. The availability, which was rather poor at the beginning, is now also available.
This is good news for end customers, since DDR4 is already on the sidelines and is no longer even supported by the upcoming AMD CPUs Ryzen 7000 “Raphael”. The falling prices should accommodate the broader adoption of the new main memory standard.
Individual kits are currently available at a price of less than 5 euros per GB. Here is an example of what is currently the cheapest offer in the form of the Kingston ValueRAM kit with 2×16 GB. The kit offers 4800 MT/s at a price of 149.89 euros or 4.68 €/GB). In April, a price of over 200 euros was estimated for the kit. As with many other models, prices have been falling steadily since December.
The price curve is less clear for the older DDR4 RAM. With popular products such as G.Skill Aegis, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro or Crucial Ballistix, price fluctuations can be seen again and again, but there is no clear upward or downward trend.
