WhatsApp will show you status updates directly in the chat tab

So far, status updates from users in WhatsApp have always been a little hidden. In the future, it should be visible directly in the chat tab when a contact posts a new status. A current beta is preparing the popular messenger for the upcoming feature.

Like the site WABetaInfo reported, WhatsApp recently released app version 2.22.13.9 through the Google Play Beta Program. However, the said new feature is not yet available in this version. According to WABetaInfo, it is still under development and not yet ready for a test. A screenshot already shows what the new function should look like.

View and open status updates directly in the chat tab

The status updates in WhatsApp are roughly comparable to Instagram stories. If a user posts a status update, this is currently somewhat hidden in WhatsApp. There’s just a dot next to the “Status” tab, indicating that at least one of the contacts has posted an update. In the future, users should be able to see directly in the chat tab who has published a status update.

This is likely to be indicated by a green circle appearing around the contact’s profile picture. In addition, the status update should also be able to be opened directly via the chat tab. If you tap on the field next to the profile picture of the user, the chat opens as usual. However, if you tap on the profile picture, the status update should be displayed directly, reports WABetaInfo.

When is the new feature coming?

It is currently unknown when the new feature for WhatsApp will appear. According to WABetaInfo, it is certain that it will come for both the Android and the iOS version. Incidentally, the new function was first discovered by WABetaInfo in the desktop version of WhatsApp. So it is likely that this version will also receive the revised status updates.
