Duke Nukem Film in the works from the creators of Cobra Kai

Duke Nukem is coming to the cinemas, with Gearbox’s Legendary Entertainment (Dune, Godzilla) securing the rights to an adaptation.

Legendary has teamed up with Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to produce the film.

Duke on the big screen

In addition to Legendary, Jean Julien Baronnet (Assassin’s Creed) from Marla Studios is also on board as a producer. Marla Studios specializes in video game adaptations.

Again Hollywood reporters reports, a screenwriter is currently being sought. There is no director yet, but the door is open for Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg to sit in the director’s chair themselves.

Attempts have been made to bring Duke Nukem to the big screen for a while. For example, Gearbox worked with Paramount more than four years ago on an idea that had John Cena in the lead role.

It would be the second major cinema project Gearbox is currently involved in. A Borderlands film is also in production, which will be directed by Eli Roth and also stars Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart, among others. The Borderlands movie is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
