Biggest MMORPG Streamer Early Unbanned From Twitch - Finds Platform's Actions "Ridiculous"

Zack “Asmongold” is the biggest MMORPG streamer on Twitch with 3.2 million followers and over 100,000 average viewers. He was most recently banned from the platform due to inappropriate behavior by a Diablo Immortal player.

what is the situation

  • Asmongold’s second channel “zackrawrr” was to be banned for 24 hours, which is why he was not allowed to stream with his main channel either. This happened because a player in Diablo Immortal made a racist comment in the public chat that was seen on the live stream.
  • He then published a statement on YouTube, which has generated 1.6 million views to date.
  • The streamer described there that he felt offended by Twitch. It burdens him that the platform thinks that he supports and allows such racist statements.
  • He also appealed the ban, emphasizing that he used 4,000 out of a possible 5,000 characters.

Twitch declines appeal but unbans Asmongold anyway

What happened after the appeal? Asmongold said Twitch denied his private appeal and he would remain banned. He then said that since nothing happened after the appeal, he had to discuss it publicly.

I write the appeal, I sent it in and nothing happened so I had to make it public. Then finally something was done. I find that very unprofessional, let’s be honest, that’s ridiculous.

Asmongold via Twitter

Because about 8 hours after the video was published, Asmongold was unblocked by Twitch.

He called whoever banned him an idiot and wondered if the employee was too lazy to put it into context or just didn’t like Asmongold.

He then offered the platform his help regarding equal moderation. The streamer said guidelines should apply to everyone equally and special cases should be given special consideration.

In addition, Asmongold constantly sees people on Twitch who try to accommodate racist or other derogatory statements in the chat or stream with small, inconspicuous comments. He notices something like this and can help Twitch block such people.

“I seem to understand these things better than they do [Twitch]’ Asmongold concluded.

Asmongold could have seen the ban as a small holiday, as many others apparently do: Twitch ban as a holiday for streamers – the eternal grind for great success and its problems
