Starfield claims to offer the best character editor of any Bethesda game
In Starfield, you can customize almost every aspect of your character.
As expected, the Xbox Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2022 ended with an in-depth presentation of Starfield. Todd Howard did the honors and introduced us to some systems of the sci-fi title. While the fights seem very action-heavy, the character editor clearly shows that role-playing elements are not neglected. We summarize all the information from the presentation for you.
This is how you can customize your character in Starfield
The editor: Howard promises the studio’s “most flexible character editor” ever. Of course, it starts with the appearance of your avatar. For example, not only can you determine your body type and skin color very precisely, but you can also change your character’s gait.
You can change your appearance later.
Background: You then choose a background story. This gives your character an origin and motivation in a few sentences. The following backgrounds can be seen in the video:

skills: Even more important than your character’s story, your choice of background determines three skills you start with. These give you various advantages in the game, such as 10 percent more damage with pistols or a higher chance of convincing NPCs in conversations. Skills can probably be upgraded as the game progresses by earning XP and leveling up.

traits: The traits are also very interesting, because in addition to an advantage, they always have a disadvantage. Two examples: The “Spaced” ability increases your stamina and life points in space, but reduces them when you are on a planet. “Starter House” gets you a small home on a moon, but you have to pay 50,000 credits. You can choose up to three traits at the start, but these are completely optional. The following traits can be seen in the trailer:

Ship and Base: But that’s not the end of it, because in addition to your avatar, you can also customize your spaceship in Starfield and build your own base. What is particularly interesting about the system is that you can hire NPCs on your travels that either guard your headquarters or travel with you in space.
