By far the most popular Xbox show trailer has nothing to do with Diablo 4 or Starfield

The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 was generally very well received by gamers. Big games like Diablo 4 and Starfield were presented. But when you look at which trailers were the most popular, one comparatively unimpressive title has a clear lead: Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Microsoft and Bethesda’s June 12, 2022 Xbox Show featured some great games. Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, Redfall, Starfield – these are all big names and games with a lot of hype.

But the show’s most popular game, measured purely by YouTube views, is Hollow Knight: Silksong. It’s not just because of the beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay and great music in this short but impressive trailer. There is a huge hype behind this game, which is largely unrelated to the AAA industry.

Hollow Knight Silksong – Xbox Game Pass Reveal Trailer

It is not only surprising that this comparatively small indie game was able to assert itself against this strong competition. The clear margin with which it secures 1st place is also remarkable.

Hollow Knight: Silksong clearly beats other games on YouTube

what are the numbers Anyone who compares the view numbers of the videos from the event on the Xbox YouTube page will be amazed. Currently (as of June 13, 10:33 a.m.) these are the numbers of the supposedly biggest names in the presentation:

  • red case: around 156,000 hits
  • Overwatch 2: about 94,000 hits
  • diablo 4: both videos (Necromancer Cinematic Trailer & Developer Showcase) together about 234,000 views
  • Starfield: around 215,000 hits

All in all very remarkable, so shortly after the event. But here are the numbers from the indie game:

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong: about 553,000 hits

Hollow Knight: Silksong alone has more views than 3 trailers for Starfield and Diablo 4 combined. As a fan of the game, you have to rub your eyes for a moment.

The first gameplay trailer for the game since 2019 is here, and fans are hungry for it. And the trailer doesn’t disappoint. In the YouTube comments, one of the things people say is, “I didn’t think it was possible, but this looks even better than the first Hollow Knight.”

LoL is coming to Xbox Game Pass and it brings a really big advantage for newcomers

What kind of game is this? Hollow Knight: Silksong is intended to be the sequel to the 2D platformer Hollow Knight, which released in 2017 and continues to delight fans and critics to this day.

With a mix of Soulslike and Metroidvania gameplay, beautiful graphics and dense atmosphere, the game is 90% up Metacritic and a whopping 97% Steam. The game costs €15 and offers enough content to keep you entertained for at least 40 hours.

Hollow Knight has thus developed into an absolute cult hit. The hype for the successor in some parts of the gaming community is correspondingly gigantic. This is even reminiscent of the anticipation around the Elden Ring.

The hype surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong is reminiscent of Elden Ring

Why do players feel reminded of Elden Ring? After the announcement of the latest FromSoftware game at E3 2019, it went many, long months without a peep. There were even memes that Elden Ring was a big prank that it was never going to happen. When the first real gameplay trailer was unveiled at E3 2021, the fans literally freaked out.

The situation is similar with Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game was first announced in December 2019, back then as an expansion for Hollow Knight, in which you can take on the role of the character Hornet.

Since December 2019, there have only been isolated confirmations from the developer that Silksong is actually being further developed, but is now becoming a full sequel. But players were hungry for more.

Almost every presentation of indie games, be it from Nintendo or Sony, was dominated by one question beforehand and in the stream chat: “SILKSONG WHEN?!” Now it has finally happened, surprisingly on Xbox.

When is the game coming out? There was no release date, but Hollow Knight: Silksong is expected to be released within the next 12 months. It will also be in Game Pass on day one, but will also appear on other platforms.

Hollow Knight: Silksong would be only the second game from small Australian indie studio Team Cherry. The first was Hollow Knight.

In addition to Hollow Knight: Solksong, 36 other games were announced, which should be available on Xbox and PC within 12 months. This also applies to Silksong, although it doesn’t appear on the official graphic:
