Call of Duty studio is working on new game after 20 years of CoD and you’ll never guess the genre
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 comes from Activision studio Infinity Ward. There has been work on various CoD titles for 20 years, and now every single Activision developer studio is busy with the shooter franchise. But obviously it doesn’t have to stay that way, as a new job posting shows. Infinity Ward is looking for people there for a project that doesn’t sound like Call of Duty at all and is assigned to a completely different genre.
Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward is looking for people for an RPG
That’s what it’s about: One Job Ad is currently causing a stir. Because it’s not every day that a studio like Infinity Ward suddenly devotes itself to a fundamentally different genre. Instead of exclusively developing first-person shooters with CoD, the next step is probably an open-world RPG. We are looking for a Narrative Director to work on the non-linear but high-quality project that will become a “Cinematic Experience”.

That doesn’t sound like CoD: The job advertisement is no longer online because the right person has apparently already been found. But what was read there sounds very different than what we have known from Infinity Ward so far. It doesn’t sound like Call of Duty at first – but of course that doesn’t mean anything. Maybe we’re just dealing with a CoD spinoff that takes place in the same universe but serves a different genre.
Something new coming? Of course, it would also be conceivable that Infinity Ward finally wants and is allowed to do something different. There’s a good chance this could have something to do with Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Infinity Ward may no longer have to push the next CoD directly afterwards because Microsoft also has enough other irons in the fire and needs a wider variety of titles for the Game Pass.

Don’t rejoice too soon! We still know far too little to be able to make any precise statements about this mysterious new game. You should therefore keep your anticipation in check. Now that the narrative designer has just been hired, the game is still a long way off anyway.
What do you think could be behind it? What are you hoping for?
