Blizzard employees point out: Diablo 4 will not be monetized like Immortal

Diablo Immortal was released in early June and received a lot of criticism for the real money shop. This shop has spoiled the desire for the upcoming Diablo 4 for some. However, Blizzard employees are now speaking up and revealing details about the monetization of the upcoming game. And it should look completely different.

What are the staff saying about the Diablo 4? The upcoming Diablo 4 will also have a shop where you can shop for real money. That had been clear for several years and was recently confirmed again with a new job advertisement (via Blizzard).

But the shop should differ significantly from Diablo Immortal. Rod Fergusson, the “closer” who was bought especially for the completion of Diablo 4, emphasized in a tweet that his game will be a full-price title for PC, PlayStation and consoles. The game should be supplied with new content over the years and rely on expansions. The shop, on the other hand, should only have cosmetic content.

This tweet received a “100%” comment from Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra:

Focus on core community and paid addons

What else do the employees say? Adam Fletcher, Community Lead for Diablo at Blizzard, reiterated in his tweet that Diablo 4 will be a full-price title and will be made for PC and console players.

The idea is to release cosmetic items and well-paid addons with new content. Pay2Win as in Diablo Immortal does not seem to exist:

When will we find out more about the shop? Both Fergusson and Fletcher stress that there should be more information about the shop “soon”. When exactly this is the case is not known.

However, we now know that Diablo 4 will be released in 2023. You can even pre-register for the beta right now.

Diablo Immortal has become the mobile game that many feared

What’s the problem with Diablo Immortal anyway? Diablo Immortal is Free2Play and thus dispenses with the initial costs that Diablo 4 will have. Instead, there is a greater focus on the shop. One problem are the legendary gems:

  • These gems are strongly linked to luck. If you want to get them, you have to use Gem Emblems. For the highest gems you also need Legendary Emblems
  • You can also get these legendary emblems in small numbers ingame, but the easiest way and in large quantities for real money is in the shop.
  • Twitch streamer Asmongold also spent 320 euros to show its viewers how the loot differs from Free2Play and paying players.

Another criticism of the shop is that cosmetic items are only unlocked for one character. Who gambles several characters, looks in the tube.

What do you say about the information about Diablo 4? Do you think Blizzard really keeps the shop fair or did the experience with Diablo Immortal make you skeptical at first?
