Diablo 4 shows the 4 specializations for the Necromancer – Here’s how you can play him
After the presentation for the Necromancer was shown at the Summer Games Fest, Diablo 4 presented the last release class in more detail in its “Quarterly Update”. MeinMMO summarizes the first information of the gloomy class for you.
The Necromancer is officially in Diablo 4 and comes with his usual abilities as a general of an army of the dead. But the developers also give the “Necromancer” more versatility and let you build builds without summons.
MeinMMO shows you the 4 skill specializations of the class and the special ability “Book of the Dead”, with which you can tinker a tailor-made army or get advantages if you do without summons. By the way, you can now register for the Daiblo 4 beta.
We embed the trailer for the Necromancer here:
Diablo 4: Necromancer – Resources, Info, Skills
The developers explain in the Necromancer blog that they want to meet your expectations of the so-called “pet class”. So there are many ways to summon a bunch of monsters and unleash them on your enemies (via blizzard.com).
However, the class should also provide more flexibility and allow you to create builds without summons. Well-known curses like “Decretify” or “Iron Maiden” should also return.
Necromancer Resources
- essence
- Charges slowly, chargeable through basic skills
- corpses/corpses
- Dropped by opponents or created by yourself
Necromancer Weapons

- wands
- foci
- shields
- scythes
You can see how the Necro poses with his weapons and armor in the following video:
Specialization: Bone
A more physical specialization with a focus on critical hits. Through your basic attacks you collect a lot of essence, which allows you to use many skills.
The developers describe the skill “Bone Spirit”. It consumes all of your essence and for each essence point you take away a percentage of your enemies’ life points. You also have options to stop or block enemies with your bones.
In the video you can observe 2 skills:
Specialization: Darkness
Shadow magic with a focus on damage over time. You also distribute de-buffs among enemies and have crowd control skills. You distribute many hits within a very short time.
The basic skill is called “Decompose” and can be used to create corpses that can be used for other skills. The Blight skill deals explosive damage and leaves plagued areas in its wake that foes take even more damage.
There is also a video on the skills here:
Specialization: Blood
A more defensive high-health specialization. The higher your life points, the more you benefit from the advantages of the blood/specialization.
Skills drain nearby enemies’ blood from their demonic veins, empowering you to use in defense or attack.
“Blood Surge” first drains your enemies of blood, then channeling the collected power into a blood nova. “Blood Mist” makes you invulnerable for a short time, which gives you optimal opportunities to escape.
More Diablo 4 gameplay here. The two Blood skills in the video.
Specialization: The Army
Here the skills of your summons are collected and the developers promise many different types of skeletons. But the classic golem is also at the start.
The specialization is built in such a way that it can be mixed with the others. You can be the Necro General you want and have extensive skills to create a large army.
The developers have shared a picture on the blog:
Unique Ability: Book of the Dead
Last but not least, the developers presented the “Book of the Dead”. A kind of command manual for your army. This is where you configure your undead warriors, wizards, and golems, and should be able to further customize your playstyle.
So all ailments have several incarnations and can be specialized themselves. The developers show this with the help of the skeleton warriors. They can be transformed into 3 different warriors:
- Skirmishers – More damage, less life
- Defenders – Less damage, more life
- Reapers – Slow attack but with area damage
Additionally, each summon gets unique upgrades for even more control over its benefits.
If you don’t feel like summoning at all, then that’s fine too: In the book, the individual summons can be deactivated and you get strong buffs for every monster you don’t use. This gives the Necro in Diablo 4 more flexibility than ever before.
Diablo 4 will be released in 2023 and has already revealed a lot of information. However, another Diablo title is currently in the foreground and is bringing many new players to the universe: the mobile game Diablo Immortal.
Again, there is a necromancer with power over the undead: Diablo Immortal: Necromancer build deals brutal damage – skills, attributes, equipment
