Diablo 4: Everything about the release, classes, beta and gameplay

Diablo 4 attributes

Diablo 4 is the new highly anticipated game from Blizzard. In this overview, we at MeinMMO reveal everything about the release, classes, the beta and the endgame.

What is Diablo 4? The latest part of the action RPG series is aimed primarily at the core community. That’s why it’s also available for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. A mobile version is currently not planned.

The game was first announced at BlizzCon 2019. Currently, players are informed of recent changes via quarterly updates and smaller videos. Most recently, it was about the Necromancer and the topic of monetization.

Below you will find all the important information about Diablo 4. The article is kept up to date.

When will Diablo 4 be released – release date

When is Diablo 4 release? There is no exact release date for Diablo 4 yet. However, a rough period was mentioned at the Xbox Showcase in the summer: the year 2023.

Microsoft itself even showed 36 games, but they should appear in the Xbox Game Pass within 12 months. Diablo 4 is on the list. A release should even take place within the first half of 2023.

Anyone interested in Diablo 4 can register for the beta now. All you have to do is Blizzard official website Visit and log in there.

When exactly the beta will start and what content will be playable is currently unknown.

Diablo 4 starts with 5 different classes and new abilities

What classes are there? Blizzard has so far presented five classes that will be available in Diablo 4:

  • The Barbarian – a hulking warrior who bashes enemies with melee weapons
  • The Sorceress – a more classic mage who uses the elements to take out enemies from afar
  • The Druid – a nature mage who uses shapeshifting and animal companions
  • The Slayer – a ranged fighter intended to combine the Diablo 1 Rogue, Diablo 2 Assassins, and Diablo 3 Demon Slayer
  • The Necromancer – a necromancer who can summon skeletons and bone golems

There is currently nothing to indicate that there will be more classes at launch. However, the developers have already revealed that Diablo 4 will receive new content and probably several expansions over the years.

New classes could then be included there, like the Necromancer in Diablo 3’s Reaper of Souls expansion.

What are the new class abilities? With Diablo 4, Blizzard brings new class mechanics to stand out a bit from the old titles.

  • The barbarian, for example, can switch between weapons in the middle of a fight and thus use up to four different sets.
  • The Sorceress can also use active spells as passive abilities. Meteorites then strike around them at regular intervals instead of actively summoning them.
  • The druid needs to build up Spirit with normal attacks in order to be able to use it for more powerful attacks.
  • The Huntress can choose one of three specializations, each representing a version of the ancient Diablo parts. She then gets different resources and abilities. It is currently unclear whether and how you can switch through the specializations.
  • With the Necromancer you can modify your skeletons even more. With skeleton warriors, you determine whether they have skirmish (damage), defender (more defense) or soul harvester (AoE) as an attribute. After that, there are more upgrades to build your army exactly how you want.

Attributes, Talent Trees and Paragon Board

Are the attributes coming back? Yes. In Diablo 4 you get points when you level up, which you can distribute in the primary attributes. These are:

  • Strength
  • intelligence
  • skill
  • willpower

Blizzard emphasizes that every attribute should be useful for every class. You also unlock side effects for some skills if you have an attribute that is particularly high.

How do talent trees work? Diablo 4 relies on a skill tree in which you can find active skills in the treetop and passive skills in the roots.

You get about enough points to unlock 40% of the tree. Although you can redistribute the talents as often as you like, you should consider in advance which skills you really need.

From level 50, the Paragon board is also added. Here you can further customize your build and even unlock additional new boards. The tiles on the board are used for this:

  • “normal tiles” give a small stat bonus – these are apparently the “colorless, dark squares” in the picture
  • “magic tiles” bring different kinds of benefits – they are a bit more powerful than regular tiles, but there are a lot of them – these are apparently the “brown” tiles in the picture
  • “rare tiles” bring clear advantages – the tiles also bring special advantages when a player has reached a certain value – these are apparently the few “yellow tiles” that you see in the picture.
  • “legendary tile” – each board only has one of these tiles in the middle of each board, so they are only found in the Paragon boards that you can unlock after the first board

Between some tiles you will find space for glyphs. You can find these glyphs while playing and they then strengthen all tiles in the area.

Loot, shared world and gameplay of Diablo 4

How is the gameplay in Diablo 4? As usual, in Diablo 4 you play your way through story chapters first and then in the endgame you can continue to grind for the best loot in the game. The game relies on the usual Hack’n’Slay controls. Since Diablo 4 will also be released for consoles, you can also play it directly on the PC with a controller.

What is also special is that the latest part has a more in-depth character editor. While there aren’t sliders to over-tweak the details like there is in Black Desert, there are different face types, hair colors, eye colors, and tattoos that you can use to create your dream character.

How does the open world work? For the first time Sanctuary is not divided into small zones, but offers an open game world that you can explore. This world is also shared with other players, much like Destiny 2. You constantly meet other people away from dungeons and story missions.

There will also be camps all over the world where monsters have made their homes. If these are liberated by you or other players, new waypoints or marketplaces are created. This should make the game world feel dynamic.

Mounts are also used so that the distances do not become too long. This is also a first for Diablo.

What can we expect from the loot? All items in Diablo 4 vary in quality:

  • Gray items are common
  • Blue and yellow items are rarer
  • The legendary items are colored orange
  • At the top are the unique items

What makes the legendary and unique items special? The two highest rarity items not only have stronger stats, but also additional affixes.

With the unique items, all attributes and affixes are fixed and are not randomly generated, unlike the legendary items.

These unique items have already been shown.

Are there set items? That is not yet clear. Sets played a big part in Diablo 3 but have not yet been announced for Diablo 4.

This is what awaits you in the endgame

In the endgame, Diablo 4 does without the well-known rifts and instead relies on key dungeons. They should offer more diverse and flexible challenges. Their exact content is determined by the respective key.

Diablo 4: How the multiplayer works

How does the co-op work? In addition to the shared world, where you can meet other players, there is also a classic co-op. You can form a group with friends and explore dungeons together.

Although there are no special co-op skills, some classes should be able to complement each other in gameplay.

Is there PvP? Diablo 4 should have its own PvP areas in the game world. In these areas, Mephisto’s hatred should surface and make the hero more aggressive.

You should be able to earn hate splinters, a separate currency, via PvP. However, this must be cleaned before you can keep it permanently. Uncleaned Hate Shards can be stolen from you at any time in PvP.

However, if you kill too many other players, you will eventually become a vessel of hatred. This player will then have a bounty on his head and become visible to everyone else. The same applies when you clean your splinters. Even then you will be visible to everyone. However, should you survive the bounty phase or the cleansing, great rewards are in store for you.

As with Diablo 2, you’ll get ears from the players you kill in PvP.

Diablo 4 Shards of Hatred
PvP in Diablo 4 revolves around the Shards of Hate.

Is there crossplay?

Yes. You can play in the open world and also in co-op with players from all platforms (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S). Thanks to cross-save, you can easily continue your game on the PC on a console.

In the story you meet Lilith – but is she the bad guy?

Who is Lilith? The demon Lilith will play an important role in Diablo 4. She has many names and titles including:

  • Queen of the Succubi
  • daughter of hate
  • mother of deceit
  • Lady of Treason

Lilith is the daughter of Mephisto, lords of hate and leader of the three great evils. She also had a brother, Lucion, with whom she was very close. However, she did not agree with the management style of the two.

Together with the archangel Inarius, who also saw war as meaningless, she created a completely new world that remained hidden from the demons and angels: Sanctuary. Lillith and Inarius fathered children who are now known as nephalem, a hybrid of angel and demon.

But the nephalem were too strong, and some feared they might wipe out demons and angels. These suggested some to destroy the nephalem. This infuriated Lilith. Inarius stood in Lilith’s path and defeated her. However, instead of killing her, he only banished her.

It is precisely from this ban that Lilith returns and is angry. But whether she is actually our enemy or wants to help us is still unclear at the moment. You can find out more about the story here:

Is there a shop in Diablo 4?

Yes. According to the developers, however, this shop should only offer cosmetic content. Boosters or even Gems like in Diablo Immortal are not planned. After all, Diablo 4 will be a full-price title with planned expansions.

What do you think of Diablo 4? Does Blizzard’s new game appeal to you? Which content do you like and which less? Feel free to write it in the comments.
