Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios announce that Neverwinter’s 23rd expansion, Dragonslayer, is available now for free on PC (Arc Games, Epic Games Store and Steam), PlayStation and Xbox.

Inspired by Dungeons & Dragons Fizbans Treasury of Dragons, players will become legendary dragon slayers in this new expansion.

Led by the famous dragon hunter Smerdiuk Dragonbane, they will venture into Dragon Lair and hunt down the maddened dragons that threaten the Sword Coast. For the first time, fans on all platforms can go dragon hunts thanks to the new Dragon Hunt system.

The new system allows players to fight chromatic dragons of different ages (Young, Mature, Ancient). Each type of dragon offers special challenges, unique hoards and their own rewards. This new free update also features revamped dragons, a new version of the popular Temple of Tiamat Trial, and additional gameplay improvements.

“It’s time for adventurers of all platforms to join the hunt and become a dragon slayer,” said Brett Norton, Executive Producer of Neverwinter. “With Dragonslayer, we’re making Neverwinter an even more epic D&D experience by bringing Fizban’s new adventures to life. We’re bringing new content to the game and revamping our existing dragons along with the epic trial against the dragon goddess Tiamat. With Dragonslayer, now is the perfect time for both old and new D&D fans to explore the Forgotten Realms.”

In Dragonbone Vale, Neverwinter’s final expansion, players managed to drive Valindra Shadowmantle out of the Sword Coast, but she was able to cast an erroneous version of the Scaleplague Mythal beforehand.

The new Dragonslayer expansion begins with this evil spell awakening the so-called dragon sight in countless dragons, causing them to go into a frenzy. To save the Sword Coast, the heroes of Neverwinter must join the famous dragon slayer Smerdiuk Dragonbane and hunt down these deadly dragons.

The Dragonslayer expansion offers a wide range of new content:

• dragonslayerCampaign: The heroes Neverwinters can become legendary dragon slayers by joining Smerdiuk Dragonbane’s squad and hunting down the maddened dragons that threaten the Sword Coast.
• dragon hunt-System: Players can progress in the new campaign by slaying dragons in the new Dragon Hunt system. They get access to the following new content:
  • Battle against the chromatic dragon of the D&D universe: Fans can engage in action-packed battles against the five species of chromatic dragons (red, blue, green, white, and black) of the D&D universe. Whether they’re hunting a vicious White Dragon or a wily Green Dragon, they’ll find that each Chromatic Dragon possesses a fighting style that suits their personality and element.
  • Epic Dragon Hoards: From the sweltering heat of the Red Dragon’s Lair to the frigid wastelands where White Dragons lurk, players can embark on exciting adventures across five different environments where the dragons have made their lairs and amassed great treasures.
  • Customizable hunts: Before players embark on a dragon hunt, they can customize their hunt with the following options:
    • Age of Dragons: Players can battle young dragons solo, hunt adult dragons in a party of three, or challenge the mightiest of ancient dragons in a party of five. The older the dragon, the greater the challenge and reward.
    • Hunt Modifiers: Hunt modifiers allow fans to make their hunts more challenging. With over ten unique modifiers and the option to upgrade them, the strength of the different dragons can be increased or decreased, the course of the hunt can be influenced and the rewards you receive for a success can be changed along with it.
  • New Rewards: After a hard and successful hunt, the captured dragon body parts can be used by Smerdiuk’s Blacksmith to craft powerful new rewards, such as the Mighty Dragonhunter’s Cuirass.
• Revised Dragons: Neverwinters Dragons have been completely redesigned. These deadly creatures have new looks, new attacks and spells, and can now soar into the skies.
• Revamped Trial Rise of Tiamat: The popular Trial, which pits ten players against Tiamat, the ferocious 5-headed dragon queen, has been revamped with new mechanics, stages, and enemies, and can be played on both Normal and Master difficulty levels.
• Normal & Master difficulty for The Crown of Keldegonn Trial: Players can now choose between Normal and Master when facing off against Valindra Shadowmantle and the Dragonlich Palhavorithyn in The Crown of Keldegonn ten-player Trial.
• Transforming Tyranny of Dragons into an Epic Adventure: The Tyranny of Dragons campaign is now an Epic Adventure, making it easier to experience the story leading to the Rise of Tiamat Trial. In addition, several improvements have been made to gameplay quality, including bug fixes in quests and small heroic encounters.

Neverwinter is a free-to-play action MMORPG with dynamic combat and epic dungeons. Players will explore the sprawling city of Neverwinter and surrounding lands, learning the vibrant history of this famous Forgotten Realm metropolis while defending it from countless enemies. Neverwinter is currently available for free.
