If you are on the Internet, you can choose between different browsers. There is, for example, Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. At first glance, both browsers offer very similar options. However, we will tell you five Edge features that Chrome does not have.

Microsoft Edge has been around since 2015. The successor to Internet Explorer came out at the same time as Windows 10. For five years, Edge was an HTML-based web browser. In 2020 Microsoft switched to Chromium this is the same open source software that Google Chrome is based on. Nevertheless, the two browsers differ in detail.

By default, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge display tabs at the top of the screen. With Edge, however, you can also display the tabs vertically. You will then find the tabs listed on the left side of the browser in a row down. This is not easy to do with Google Chrome.

How to enable vertical tabs on Edge:

  1. Open the Edge browser.
  2. Right-click on the tab bar.
  3. Select “Enable vertical tabs”.

Immersive Reader

Microsoft Edge offers another feature that Google Chrome doesn’t offer on board by default. The Immersive Reader feature converts compatible web pages into a book-like format. This makes the whole website clearer and easier to read. For example, on the left side you will find a table of contents.

How to enable Immersive Reader on Edge:

  1. Enter the desired URL in the browser’s address bar. If the site supports Immersive Reader, a book icon with a volume indicator appears at the top right under the tab bar.
  2. Click on it and you activate the Immersive Reader.
  3. Press the button again, for example, to have the text read out to you or to change the text size.

Do you like using your browser for online shopping? Microsoft Edge offers the useful Coupon Finder function for this. If you call up a website with products in the browser, the tool will tell you whether there are vouchers for the products displayed.

This is how you see the coupons on Edge:

  1. Go to the website with the desired product in the Edge browser.
  2. If vouchers are available, it says “This website has vouchers!” on the right side of the address bar next to the shopping symbol.
  3. Click on the shopping icon with the red number.
  4. Select the coupon you want and click on it. This will copy it and you can redeem it in the payment process.

Save websites as apps

With Microsoft Edge you can save websites as apps on the desktop. Above all, this saves you time. Because you don’t have to start the Edge browser first and call up the desired page. That’s how it works:

  1. Open the Edge browser.
  2. Go to the website you want.
  3. Click on the three dots in the top right.
  4. Select “Apps”.
  5. Click “Install this site as an app”.
  6. Confirm with “Install” and then “Allow”.
