Avatar Anime: Whenever one of the movies is really about Korra, I’m freaking out with joy
Paramount and Nickelodeon have confirmed three new Avatar: The Last Airbender movies during the 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. However, this is not a real film adaptation, but animated productions by Avatar Studios, which the US animation series is supposed to bring to the cinema with the usual quality.
But there is no official information about what the three animated films are about or when they are supposed to be released. But want for that Avatar news already know more about the films thanks to anonymous sources.
Three standalone Avatar animated films
According to Avatar News, the three films, all of which are untitled, each have their own theme, so they don’t form a coherent story.
1st Movie – Avatar Kyoshi
The first of the three films is slated to be a prequel starring Avatar Kyoshi, who was orphaned in the Earth Kingdom and has been continued in novels. A teaser shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival suggests that this is really true. According to sources, it appears to have shown General Fong’s (Earth Kingdom’s) stronghold, the saying “The Avatar Returns” and an earthbending symbol.
The year 2024 was mentioned as a rough release period.
2. Movie – Zuko
The second film, which is said to be about Zuko, the son of Fire Lord Ozai and Ursa, is to follow in 2025. It is not clear when the story is supposed to be set. But it would be possible that Zuko’s mother will be the subject. What happened to her has so far only been taken up in comics (The Search) and is therefore suitable for an animated implementation.
3rd Movie – Korra
There are also comics about Korra that could serve as a basis for the third and final film, which should definitely fit, since the film is supposed to follow the end of the series The Legend of Korra.
The conclusion with the Korra film is planned for 2026.
How likely is all of this?
While the information may sound plausible, mostly from the novels and comics, none of it is official yet. Neither Paramount nor Nickelodeon have commented on this so far.
Although Avatar News speaks of sufficient sources, it warns itself that these should only be about the current plans, which can change at any time.
But now to you: What do you think of the supposed concepts? Would you like movies that pick up on the novels and comics, or maybe you’d rather have whole new and fresh stories from the Avatar universe? Tell us in the comments.
