Elden Ring: Tinkerer builds robots for farming because normal cheating would be way too easy

In the Elden Ring subreddit, a player shows off an ingenious invention. A cardboard robot with a light sensor lights up while motors audibly cause movement on the screen. The robot automatically farms runes. The post was well received by the fans – but was deleted by the moderators of the community.

Between the late evening of June 20 and the early morning of June 21, im subreddit of Elden Ring a post extremely steep. This post was able to collect over 24,000 upvotes, 1,149 comments and almost 50 awards in just a few hours – until it was deleted by the subreddit moderators.

This post showed an approximately 2-minute video in which a robot automatically farms runes in Elden Ring.

The reason for the deletion of the post is unclear, but it was probably considered an unfair cheat by the mods. But the community obviously celebrated this post very much. We tell you here what it was about.

“I built a robot that automatically farms runes”

How does this robot work? In the 2 minutes of the video you can clearly see what is going on here. Because even if the construction looks very complex and intimidating, you can easily deduce the function. After all, this farm robot only does what some cheaters do with macros.

Here’s the video from the now-deleted Reddit post:

A popular farming spot is in the Mohgwyn Plast of Elden Ring, where you can also find the powerful White Mask. Here you can quickly and easily kill about a dozen Albinaurics and graze on some runes. You can then invest this in leveling up.

Some players automate this process with cheat macros, because the steps for this farming spot are predictable and precisely controllable. With this you can probably get about 6 million runes in one hour.

This robot arguably follows the same steps but uses a hardware solution instead of software. This also prevents anti-cheats from recognizing that something (or someone) is fishy.

Roboticists who use hardware solutions to recreate cheat-like functions are apparently becoming something of a trend at the moment:

Robot is a cardboard monster with bright lights

How is this robot built? Several close-ups give an idea of how this robot works. It becomes clear that despite the complicated technology, the materials of this farm bot are cheap.

Dozens of cables run together on a circuit board that can light up red and green and was plugged into a MacBook via USB. For this purpose, a light sensor is glued to the monitor with electrical tape.

With this light sensor, the robot can detect where the place of grace is. As soon as the Farm-Bot has recognized the save point, the character will then snap to it in order to be able to start the whole process from the beginning.

Curiously, the robot itself is a cardboard and foam monstrosity, with switches pressing against cardboard wings – presumably to press buttons on a controller. In the video you can hear loudly the sounds of the motors that set these switches in motion. In CSGO you have to defuse things that look like this.

“You are an evil genius”

What other players say: Before the post was deleted, there was a lot of praise and enthusiasm for this solution in the comments on reddit.

  • “I thought macros would be impressive for assassinating albinaurs. You…. is the next level. You are an evil genius.” – Revolutionary-Today1
  • “The good kind of AFK farmer!” – zipfer
  • “How the hell is it possible to be so lazy and so busy at the same time? The Hammer.” – ThunderHype

Jokes that the tinkerer misunderstood the term “Elden Ring Build” were also cracked.

What do you think of this invention? Brilliant, or brilliant next to it? And do you understand that the reddit mods have deleted this post? Tell us in the comments.

Clever Elden Ring fans don’t just invent robots to play the game in a very special way. Even angelic instruments are misused for the tough action RPG:
