F1 22 is already in the starting position and ready to compete for the best racing game trophy this summer. Shortly before the release, Codemasters, which is now owned by EA, gives us a deeper look at their latest Formula 1 title. The use of the PS5’s DualSense controller is particularly interesting. The studio wants to use pretty much all of the controller’s features to make F1 22 even more immersive.

F1 22 uses these DualSense functions

Haptic feedback: At the speed of a Formula 1 car, every little pebble on the track and every driving error that sends them off the tarmac shakes the drivers. In F1 22, this feeling should be conveyed better than ever before by the DualSense. “The feel for collisions and surfaces has been drastically improved,” says the PlayStation Blog. The DualSense should even be able to tell whether the touch is on the left or right side.

Dennis was already allowed to play F1 22 – here you can read his worries and hopes:

Adaptive triggers: The innovative triggers, i.e. R2 and L2, of the DualSense controller come into their own in racing games. Depending on the load on your tires, the two buttons can be activated relatively easily or only with great difficulty. “If your car locks up under braking, the resistance from the brake trigger increases, resulting in a more immersive connection with the car.” Another example is wheel spin, which increases the resistance of the throttle trigger.

Speaker: The speaker of the DualSense is also used by Codemasters. Important information and route data are communicated via the controller instead of via the television or your system. We want it to feel like the race engineer is speaking directly to us while the track noise hums in the background with a little more distance.

F1 22 will be released on July 1, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

What do you think of the implementation of DualSense features for F1 22?
