GTA 3: New concept trailer for a remake à la Unreal Engine 5

from Norman Wittkopf
Rockstar Games’ remaster versions of GTA 3 and Co. weren’t well received by every fan, which is why the YouTube channel “TeaserPlay”, which specializes in remake concepts, has now taken on the whole thing with Unreal Engine 5.

As the first and oldest 3D title in the popular GTA series, Grand Theft Auto 3 is the closest game that could use a decent remake. As is well known, Rockstar Games took on the classic and its two successors Vice City and San Andreas last year with “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition”, but rather polished it up superficially in remaster form, which apart from general starting problems is not every player was enough.

The YouTube channel “TeaserPlay”, which has already appeared through various remake concepts with the Unreal Engine 5, recently published a new video in which GTA 3 inspired scenes can be recreated with the modern graphics framework. There are impressions of Liberty City, of various vehicles and the protagonist Claude Speed, backed by original footage from the game.

A fan project series

As with the similar concept trailers for GTA: San Andreas and GTA: Vice City, this is of course only a what-if draft, but there is undoubtedly some fan work in it, which is also quite can be seen, although the lighting in this case sometimes seems a bit over the top.

The description accompanying the video states that Lumen was used for the rendering and the illustrative concept was created to show “how powerful the Unreal Engine 5 is for sandbox game development and how the remastered version of GTA 3 should look like”. In this way, considerable concept videos for Assassin’s Creed in Japan or for a designated Dark Souls 4 were created.
