Silent Hill: Fan Remake brings you the spookiest location of the original in Unreal Engine 5
I’m not a big fan of remakes, but there are some games that I think deserve a reinterpretation with modern technology. The first Silent Hill also falls into this category. Although the pixel look of the original has its very own charm, I would definitely not say no to a remake in the style of Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3. Thankfully, there’s a group of dedicated fans who have made it their mission to completely rebuild Silent Hill in Unreal Engine 5.
The Silent Hill Remake looks great, but something is missing…
The Codeless Games group’s project has been in development for some time, and we reported the first gameplay trailer earlier this year. In comparison, a lot seems to have happened, because both the protagonist Harry Mason and the surroundings look much better than they did back then. The latest video shows us perhaps the game’s most well-known location – the monster-infested school of Silent Hill:

The game isn’t perfect yet: Basically, the video looks very good – especially for a fan project. However, the remake can’t quite capture the atmosphere of the original. .
A problem that other UE5 mockups also have, such as this Dark Souls 4 trailer. The surroundings almost always seem too bright and somehow sterile. In addition, the animations can rarely keep up with the game of a professionally run studio.

And what about the official Silent Hill games?
Silent Hill 2 Remake: There are many signs that a remake of Silent Hill 2 is in development at Bloober Team. Many fans were expecting an announcement at Summer Game Fest, and Bloober was there, but only with Layers of Fears.
You can read here why I am not enthusiastic about this prospect:

That can never work
A completely new part: More exciting than the remake are the rumors about a real sequel or reboot that is said to be in development at an unknown Japanese studio. Is Hideo Kojima involved? Unfortunately, we don’t know, but it doesn’t look like it at the moment. The development is said to be well advanced and an announcement is possible at any time.
How much would you celebrate a remake of Silent Hill?
