WoW Dragonflight: Which version is the most worthwhile?

WoW dragon flight base version

The new expansion WoW: Dragonflight offers several versions for sale. But which one is worth it for you? We have explained it in detail.

Relatively unexpectedly, Blizzard has suddenly started the advance sale of the next expansion WoW: Dragonflight. The developers also revealed a rough release date “in passing”. Because from the different versions of the presale it is clear that Dragonflight should be published by December 31st, 2022 at the latest.

This not only fuels the anticipation, but also presents the players with a difficult decision: Should you buy Dragonflight in advance? And which of the versions is the right one? Is the base edition enough or do you prefer the heroic or even the epic version? Or do you go for the particularly elegant Collector’s Edition?

To make your decision a little easier, we’ll tell you what’s in each version and explain which one is the most rewarding for you.

Buy WoW Dragonflight: What’s in the versions?

This is in the Base Edition: At €49.99, the Base Edition is clearly the cheapest offer, but it also comes with the least content. It contains:

  • The Dragon Flight expansion
  • Access to the Callers of the Dracthyr (new class/race), with the possibility of them being playable before the release of Dragonflight

In the basic version there is a pet – but only if you pre-order.

Here’s what’s in the Heroic Edition: At €69.99, the Heroic Edition is already significantly more expensive, but it comes with even more goodies. This includes:

  • All content of the Base Edition
  • A character boost for Dragonflight to level 60, giving you a character at the right level to start the new expansion.
  • The Entwined Dreamweaver Flying Mount
  • The Murkastrasza Battle Pet
WoW Dragonflight Heroic version
The Heroic Edition already has more to offer – character boost, mount and pets.

This is in the Epic Edition: By far the most luxurious variant is the Epic Edition, but it also costs a whopping €89.99 and is therefore quite an investment. But Blizzard also has some additional content that should justify the price. These are:

  • All content from the Base Edition and Heroic Edition
  • Timewalker’s Hearthstone Toy
  • Diadem of the Spell-Keeper Head Transmutation
  • Back transmogrification “Wings of Awakening” in 5 different colors (black, red, blue, green, bronze) – these are wings for your character.
  • 30 days playing time
WoW Dragonflight pre-order items
All items from the Epic Edition – lots of stuff for collectors.

Is there a pre-order bonus? Yes. Regardless of which version you buy, pre-orders come with an extra bonus, the Drakks pet. This is a cute little humanoid dragon, sort of a mini version of a Dracthyr.

This is only available if you buy Dragonflight during the pre-order phase – i.e. until the release. However, it is possible that you can later buy Drakks individually in the in-game shop if you miss this opportunity.

Which edition of Dragonflight should you buy?

Which edition of the game you ultimately buy is of course primarily a question of your wallet. But those who can dig deeper don’t necessarily want to – so here are a few pointers to help you figure out which edition is right for you.

If you just want to play Dragonflight and transmogs, toys and mounts are not important to you, then grab the Base Edition for just under €50. There’s no rush, because the only thing you’ll get for pre-purchasing is an extra pet and possibly earlier access to the Dracthyr.

If you collect mounts and/or want a character boost to level 60, you should grab the Heroic Edition. The character boost alone would normally cost a whopping €60, so you save a lot here. If you don’t need the boost, €20 for the dragon mount is the price you would otherwise pay for a comparable mount in the shop.

Who collects pets, mounts and toys, can confidently go for the expensive Epic Edition for €90. The main thing to note here is that the Epic Edition also includes 30 days of game time, which you would have to buy anyway in one way or another afterwards.

So if you factor out the €13 for the game time, then the upgrade from the Heroic to the Epic edition actually only costs €7 and for that you get 6 transmog items and a toy.

What about the Collector’s Edition?

Yes, there are. It is physical and must be pre-ordered directly from the Blizzard Store. The content is the same as the Epic Edition, but there are also physical goodies such as an art book, mouse pad and pins. We have presented the exact contents of the Collector’s Edition to you here.

Will you pre-order Dragonflight? Or do you prefer to wait for the release and first reviews?
