Overwatch: This will happen with the loot boxes and the currency when part 2 comes

What will happen to unopened Loot Boxes and leftover in-game currency in Overwatch when Overwatch 2 launches? Blizzard answers this question for all Overwatch players.

At least nothing is lost

Aaron Keller, the game director of Overwatch 2, spoke in a question and answer session Reddit comments: “When OW2 launches on October 4th, it will be a replacement for the current live service.” There will be a detailed explanation on these issues before the game goes live in October.

“But to give you a quick answer right now, the existing currencies (credits, OWL tokens, and Contest Points) will come with Overwatch 2. We will not be introducing Loot Crates to Overwatch 2 and prior to launch, all unopened Loot Crates will be automatically opened and the content is taken directly into your account.”

However, there is a small catch: “OW1 credits will come with you to OW2, but our new virtual currency will be the main currency, and there will be things in OW2 that cannot be purchased with these OW1 credits,” says Keller .

Overall, this approach sounds quite reasonable. Basically, players lose nothing even if the old credits are not on par with the new in-game currency.

Overwatch 2 will be free to play in Early Access on October 4th, 2022. The sequel will receive a Battle Pass and will not include loot boxes with random content. Instead, you can spend your credits in the in-game shop. There will be new seasonal updates every nine weeks, bringing new passes, heroes, maps, modes, and cosmetics to the game.
