New announcement Pentiment: Murder in the Bavarian monastery by a prominent studio

from Michael Miskulin
The Xbox Bethesda Showcase unearthed some big game announcements a few weeks ago. But a very special announcement certainly made many players look surprised. We’re talking about Pentiment, a new adventure from the developer studio Obsidian Entertainment, which belongs to Microsoft.

The Adventure Pentiment is directed by Studio Design Director Josh Sawyer, who previously worked on Fallout New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. Pentiment is set in Upper Bavaria in the 16th century and deals with a mysterious story that focuses on a series of murders over 25 years. The special thing about the game is of course the unusual look. Because the graphic style was inspired by medieval book illumination and woodcut prints.

The player takes on the role of Andreas Maler, who, true to his name, works as a journeyman artist in the former scriptorium of Kiersau Abbey in Bavaria. But while working on his masterpiece, he becomes involved in the series of murders and must now investigate and interrogate peasants, monks, nuns, craftsmen and nobles. By the way, film connoisseurs could also feel reminded of Umberto Eco’s “The Name of the Rose” due to the plot description.

Unfortunately, there will be no voice output – the investigations will take place via text dialogues. The player should be offered some choices. On the one hand he could dig up a dead monk or he could listen to peasant gossip. The player’s decisions should have consequences that can even affect the Bavarian monastery for generations. Pentiment is scheduled for release in November 2022 for PC (Windows Store and Steam), Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One for around 20 euros. At the same time, Pentiment will also be available in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass at the time of release.
