WoW postpones warlock nerfs but takes hunters down the abyss

Warlocks are getting a quick breather in World of Warcraft. Her nerfs are being postponed, but the Hunters are already trembling.

We recently reported that Destruction Warlocks are getting a significant nerf and their power is being weakened in World of Warcraft. Just a few hours later, Blizzard rowed back due to player protests and canceled the nerfs.

Did the “howling” help here? No, because players have good reasons why the nerfs are coming at a bad time right now.

What nerfs are these? The Destruction Warlock pet set is to be nerfed. The Blasphemy Infernals summoned by the set bonus should no longer have the Chaos Rain effect. This means Blasphemy can’t create more Chaos Beasts, which then deal high area damage and generate Soul Shards. Warlocks could barely keep up with spending soul shards and could use their most powerful spells almost non-stop.

Meanwhile, WoW is advertising in a curious way:

Why did Blizzard postpone the nerfs? The reason for this might be the MDI, the “Mythic Dungeon International”. This is one of Blizzard’s e-sports events where the best teams in the world compete to complete extremely hard Mythic+ dungeons as quickly as possible.

The tournament starts in a few weeks and the practice phase has long since begun. Many teams have already selected their members and classes according to the current balance. The changes would ruin those teams’ planning and create chaos. Especially during the MDI, however, you want to have a fair playing field with consistent rules.

Blizzard says:

In response to player feedback, we have decided not to make the Destruction Warlock changes this week. We expect to roll out these changes alongside those to Survival Hunter at the launch of Season 4.

In our April 20th adjustments, we adjusted Destruction Warlocks and Survival Hunters to regulate their performance in M+ dungeons. These changes weren’t enough and we need to adjust more. But we recognize that this would have a major impact on players who have put a lot of time and effort into both of these specializations for the remainder of the current M+ season.

Please prepare for the reduction in damage from Destruction Warlocks and Survival Hunters in multi-target situations at the start of Season 4.

What happens to hunters? Survival Hunters are also on Blizzard’s kill list. They also cause far too much damage, especially in “AoE situations” and drastically outperform all other classes – except warlocks. Therefore, hunters can also expect significant nerfs.

When will the nerfs come? With the start of season 4. There is no specific date for this yet, but it is currently assumed that there will be around 4 to 8 weeks left before Shadowlands will start its last, 4th season. Until then, sorcerers and hunters can still use their strength to do so much damage in situations with many simultaneous targets that other classes cannot keep up.

Do you think it’s good that Blizzard is taking this into account? Or should nerfs always come immediately when they are necessary – regardless of whether a tournament is running?
