Pokémon GO: Research breakthrough in July with Schlurp – is it worth it?

What is a research breakthrough? In Pokémon GO you have the opportunity to get so-called field research by turning the PokéStop. These are monthly changing tasks through which you can get daily rewards such as items or encounters with Pokémon.

For each day that you solve at least one of the quests, you will receive a corresponding stamp in the “Field” view above the tasks. If you have collected 7 stamps, you will receive a research breakthrough and can look forward to an additional reward in the form of an encounter with a selected Pokémon. Schlurp awaits you in the Research Breakthrough in July.

Research Breakthrough with Schlurp – Period and Shiny

How long has Schlurp been in research breakthrough? The Research Breakthrough rotates monthly. For this reason, you can get Schlurp in the period from July 01, 2022 at 22:00 local time to August 01, 2022 at 22:00 local time. Before that, the steel Pokémon Klikk awaits you in the June research breakthrough until July 1st, 2022.

What kind of Pokemon is Slurp? Schlurp is a Normal Pokémon from the 1st generation of games. With the help of 100 candies and a Sinnoh stone, you can evolve it into Schlurplek. You can recognize Schlurp by its strong pink body and long tongue.

Outside of July’s Research Breakthrough, you can also occasionally encounter Smurfs in field or special research, as well as in the wild when it’s partly cloudy. Occasionally you can also challenge it in raids.

Can you catch Shiny Slurp? Yes, if you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Schlurp. This differs from the normal form by a golden yellow body.

Is the research breakthrough with Schlurp worth it?

It is so strong: Schlurp is particularly convincing with his endurance values. It’s not that good in attack and defense. His further development Schlurplek is a bit better here and can withstand a little more than Schlurp in combat.

The two Pokémon are not suitable for use in raids, which is why you should rather use the best attackers in Pokémon GO there. However, this is different in the GO Battle League.

Especially in the super league, Schlurp can really score with an attack combination of lick, body slam and leaf whip. In the Hyperliga, Schlurplek is at the forefront with a move set consisting of Schlecker, Bodyslam and Spukball (via pvpoke.com).

Note, however, that the Charged Attack Body Slam is an Event Attack. Both Schlurp and Schlurplek can currently only learn these with the help of a Top-Charging TM.

Is Schlurp worth it? Schlurp is especially worthwhile for trainers who are also looking for a strong attacker in the GO Battle League.

If you already have a strong Schlurp or Schlurplek, you can at least secure a few extra candies, which is why you should definitely take the research breakthrough with you. And with a bit of luck, shiny hunters can also look forward to a dazzling Schlurp.

Schlurp causes divided opinions in the community

The reddit community is currently busy discussing the announced content and events for July. And Schlurp is also an issue and causes very different views among the trainers. So you can find both positive and negative feedback on the planned research breakthrough (via reddit.com):

But why are the reactions so different? The feedback from the trainers mainly depends on how long the respective player has been with Pokémon GO. In the past there were always events where Schlurp could be found on a larger scale.

So if you’ve been around a little longer, you’ve had a lot more opportunities to encounter this Pokémon and get hold of a strong and/or dazzling specimen. In addition, Schlurp and its further development are of particular interest to trainers who are also active in the GO Battle League.
