EA has been criticized for a meme targeting single-player fans

Electronic Arts has been criticized for a saying that makes fun of players who only play single-player titles.

When a joke backfires

On Thursday, Electronic Arts wanted to garner a few laughs with a meme. Actually intended as a joke, the saying “You are a 10, but you only play single-player games” did not go down well with the publisher’s fans.

Out of more than 7,000 responses, a large proportion consists of negative reactions. Popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye rephrased the line: “You’re a 10 but thought this tweet was a good idea.”

Developer Obsidian clarified in a retweet that single-player games are “dope,” “awesome,” and “awesome,” while other familiar faces, like Vince Zampella, head of EA’s Respawn Entertainment, responded with a “facepalm” emoji.

Some other well-known developers remind Electronic Arts with a wink that next time they should be a little more careful with their choice of words. Others are not so squeamish about EA.

Electronic Arts accepts defeat

“This is the company that closed my studio and laid off ~100 great developers because we made a single player game,” wrote Zach Mumbach, a former producer at Visceral Games for games like Dead Space 2 and Dante’s Inferno . Ouch.

But that’s not all, as Mumback followed up with this message: “And if you break game ratings down to a 10 point scale, most EA games are a solid 6 or 7. Not because the developers are bad , but because EA as a company is forcing them to get the games out quickly. EA’s leadership doesn’t know what a ’10’ looks like when it comes to video games.”

A few hours after the unfortunate tweet, EA gave up and posted: Roast well deserved. We’ll take the L because playing single player games actually makes it an 11.” After all, Electronic Arts isn’t a bad loser here.
