Is Return to Monkey Island really “the end of the series”?
There is currently speculation as to whether Return to Monkey Island, the latest installment in the popular point-and-click adventure series that will mark the end of the series. The speculation was triggered by the website created specifically for the game. In addition to small gimmicks in point-and-click style, this also includes a so-called overview menu, in which the most important aspects of the game are summarized. Right here they say that Return to Monkey Island “the exciting conclusion to the Monkey Island series” should be. Here it is advertised that this very ending is a veteran of the series like Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman, Rex Crowle, Peter McConnell, Michael Land and Clint Bajakian return. It remains to be seen whether this actually represents a conclusion for Monkey Island itself. It is assumed, for example, that it is “only” the last part with Ron Gilbert involved.
Open question for the future
It is currently not particularly likely that we will receive a more concrete answer to the question of whether this will really be the end of the Monkey Island series in the near future. Finally, the discussion about the new graphic style, which can be seen in Return to Monkey Island, led to Gilbert not wanting to share any new information about the title for the time being. When exactly the point-and-click adventure for the personal computer and the Nintendo switch is not known at the moment. However, the return to Monkey Island is yet to come 2022 happen.
Not a copy of the past
According to Gilbert and Co., the game should by no means be a mere retro title. Accordingly, it has already been announced that the title should be much easier than some of the earlier classics. At the end of April, we already discussed what exactly David Grossman and Ron Gilbert imagine in terms of difficulty. Only as part of the last Nintendo Direct a new trailer was shown in which, among other things, the controversial graphic style could be seen.
