Anno 2070 and more: Ubisoft ends online services for prominent games

from Maximilian Hohm
On September 1st, Ubisoft will discontinue the online functions of many older and still popular games. With the exception of Anno 2070, there doesn’t seem to be an option to keep the functions alive in any other way, and even access to purchased DLCs should then no longer be possible in some cases. Read more about this below.

Current games have many features that can only be used with an internet connection. In addition to multiplayer and co-op mode, this also includes cloud-saved progress, achievements and much more. While the titles are new, they are usually well supported by their manufacturer, but as they get older or old, the manufacturers want to minimize the costs for these titles and, unless there is a decentralized multiplayer mode with their own servers, many functions simply permanently.

The most photorealistic game yet… That’s what the PCGH editors say

This is supposed to be the case for many older Ubisoft games on 09/01/22. Multiplayer mode will be taken away from them all, Ubisoft accounts can no longer be linked in-game and online functions will no longer be used. With some titles, however, the installation and access to DLC is also impossible, which must be questioned critically. These include Assassin’s Creed 3, AC: Brotherhood, AC: Liberation, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3 and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

The cessation of support for Space Junkies is particularly annoying, since the pure multiplayer title can no longer be played at all. In the case of Anno 2070 However, Ubisoft has announced that it will use some developer resources to upgrade the online infrastructure so that some online features can still be used, although the manufacturer does not want to give full guarantees. A full list of affected games and the content that will be dropped can be found here be viewed here.
