Xiaomi presented three new smartphones on Monday. The highlight is the Xiaomi 12S Ultra – the new flagship model has a 1-inch camera with Leica branding, which is huge for a smartphone.

The Xiaomi 12S family includes three new models: the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro and the top model, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. While the first two are slightly revised versions of the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro from last year, the flagship has a real highlight feature on board – and a lot else on the box. The Xiaomi 12 S Ultra not only has a 1-inch camera sensor, it also has a huge 120 Hertz display and Qualcomm’s currently fastest SoC on board.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra: This is what the 1-inch camera can do

The gigantic camera module of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra occupies a third of the entire rear. Inside are three cameras: a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and the 50-megapixel main camera with a 1-inch Sony sensor. The large sensor allows the smartphone to capture more light and thus display more image details. The lenses come from Leica, as does a special coating on the entire camera module that is designed to reduce glare.

Technical data, prices, availability

On the front, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra offers a 32-megapixel selfie cam. The AMOLED display measures an impressive 6.73 inches diagonally, has a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels and offers a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. It can also display content in Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG formats. Inside is a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, which is supported by either 8 or 12 GB of RAM. Depending on the variant, 256 or 512 GB of internal memory is available. The device is IP68-certified and offers a 4,860 mAh battery that can be quickly charged with up to 67 watts.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra can now be pre-ordered in China and will be officially released on July 6th. Prices start at 5,999 yuan, the equivalent of around 860 euros. The Xiaomi 12S, on the other hand, is already available for 3,999 yuan, around 570 euros. Xiaomi has not yet commented on the international launch.
